Jonathan Ross - Funny ?

Posted by: shoot6x7 on 05 December 2009

Do people in Britain seriously think that Jonathan Ross is funny ?

He has great guests and completely fails to ask them anything interesting. He then makes gags at their expense, mildly patronizes them.

Graham Norton on the other hand has us in stitches ...

Ross funny, you have got to be joking.
Norton, eh ?? can you explain that joke please.

NO, also not funny Norton, Gervais and Corbett

I for one will be glad when UK tv & radio moves on from JR.

I agree with shoot - Ross completely unfunny whereas Graham Norton cracks me up. I watch Ross more for the bands he has on.
My favourite recent guest on the Ross show was Jack Dee. Ross asked him why Dee himself had recorded his autobiography on the audiobook version. Jack Dee replied "We asked Angelina Jolie but she said no". Ross persisted and asked "Why didn't you ask me?". Quick as a flash Jack Dee answered "Because you can't fucking speak properly".
Regards,
Steve

I beg to differ; Steptoe and Son remains one of my all time favourite situation comedies and Harry H Corbett was quite superb in Bargie and What a Crazy World We're Living In.

Or did you mean Matthew Corbett? In which case you have to be a certain age to enjoy the antics of Sooty, not to mention sweep.

On topic, there are three things that everybody should despise in life - world famine and social injustice, synchronised clapping and Jonathan Ross.

I do not like chat shows very much - well I almost dislike chat shows as much as I dislike war films (Escape to Victory excepted), violent movies and computer games.

I have to admit I did like Gervais in the Office, but had never thought of it as a comedy, but a highly accurate and revealing documentary about middle management in Britain.

I would like to add ..... I have just returned from 3 weeks in India, most of which was spent in wild areas with no TV, but once I got back to the countless TV stations, Bolliwood films, CNN & BBC World, it kinda makes you a little more grateful for the brainless dross of Ross, Norton, X Factor etc ..... I also found the same when on other travels to places like USA & RSA, (haven't seen a lot of Canuck TV yet shoot)

The OFF switch fixes most of the Ross problems for me.

I agree about ITV series, but even so Parky was and arsehole creeper. Every guest seemed to be his favourite.
I reckon Sir Melvin B would be good, now that The South Bank Show is coming to an end.

I have got really sick of Ross' particularly his smuttyness with actresses.

He was always a second rate copy of David Letterman, who I did find funny for a while.

I also find his music choices very bland.

Not funny, and has outstayed what welcome he may have had.

I think Parky genuinely liked his guests. At least he was prepared to ask interesting questions that did not try to make him look good and listen to the answers.

Unlike, IMHO, Ross who wants to look good, rarley aks a genuinely intereesting question and interuppts the answer. He always comes out with the crappy statement that he is their number 1 fan.

Rarely that funny, too sumug, too shallow, too smutty and too expensive.

I used to enjoy his Saturday morning radio show, now he is so full of himself I turn the radio off after Sound of the Sixties!

Horay! At last some like minded souls, I absulutely can not stand Ross.

I even reach for the remote just to mute the trailers for his show.

Woss should be sacked and asked to repay the millions that we pay him every year.

I reckon Jeremy Clarkson should have the job, now, he is funny.

It's great see Top Gear hasn't lost it's edge...

Surely the one purpose of all chatshows is just so the "guests" can plug their latest film/book/play/albm/etc?

And no, he isn't funny. Nor is Norton.

At least Norton lets his guest answer his questions and then makes fun of it ...

He also attempts to entertain his guests, which is different form everyone else.

Colbert Report, John Stewart are too political, Letterman and Leno are too boring, not sure about Conan O'Brian who used to be hilarious ... Norton is the only one we watch and that's on BBC Canada ... along with Top Gear.

Shoot everyone in television.

Job done.
Posted on: 06 December 2009 by JamieL_v2
Some of us on the forum work in TV, although there are definitely some candidates to be put up against your wall. Especially one Saturday night TV host who is hated by those unfortunate enough to work with the ****.

As for Graham Norton, not very funny on TV, but absolutely brilliant on radio (Radio 4 anyway).

I got rid of my TV months back. Only light viewing around others abodes is a nice balance IMHO. Finding books far more riveting these days...

Ross is a smug low brow narcissist who rarely asks a good question or listens to the answer. Come back Parky all is forgiven. Ross hosting 'Film'200*' is a disaster. Whose stupid decision was that - shoot em both.

Sir I do not believe a public forum is the place for 'coming out' with any perversities.

Thank you. Big Grin

More perverse than you might think:

Before and after detail of a shot I did for a small film 'Caught in the Act' a couple of years ago. Done with the actress' permission, and apparently got a big laugh when the film was first shown. A still, tracked onto the actress as she turned and walked off stage.

So yes, I too am a purveyor of smut.
