Non Naim headphone amp with Nait5
Posted by: Vaughn3D on 19 December 2003
The subject says it all...I am too poor currently to purchase a headline and FC2. I am wondering if I can use a cheaper headphone amp like the Creek OBH-11 with the Nait5. My assumption is that I simply need the cable that gets the signal from the tape output to the headphone amp because the Creek comes with a power supply. thanks

Nothing says you have to use a Naim headphone amp with a Naim amp.
A really cheap option would be to put a cassette deck in and listen through that...

yes you are correct - just run the creek off the tape output from your Nait. Remember that you will need the right kind of lead for this as a normal source i.C will not work (the wrong pins will be connected at the amp end). I use a Rega Ear and it works fine.
Apparently the SE version of the creek is worth the extra money, but not heard it my self.

Vaughn,
The
Head-Fi forum has a lot of good info if you run searches for the amp and phones you're considering mating.
Some relatively inexpensive alternatives to consider are
HeadRoom,
Corda and cult favorite PPA and PIMETA designs from
JMT, Headsave, etc, etc.
What phones will you be using?

Is the "Signal Out A" the output that I would use for sending to the headphone amp?
My guess is that this is the same output that i would use to integrate an external power amp.
I just got the Senn HD490 phones for Christmas...I have no idea how good they are.
