Placebos / sidegrades

Posted by: Not For Me on 12 August 2001

Looking at some of the other posts, there is a lot of advice about what to do to fix this / improve that etc.

I wonder what other people have found are definite ly bad moves, not a matter of taste, but plain useless upgrades / sidegrades and placebo improvements?

i like the word "sidegrade" !! smile smile

however, the complication is that "one man's meat is another man's poison" so one group will deem a particular change as an upgrade, and another group will consider it a downgrade, while yet another will consider it a "sidegrade" (huh..)

i would like to suggest that using non-naim speaker plugs in a definite downgrade in an all naim system -- i know because i have owned both and changed over to naim plugs with important musical benefits.

i could suggest that using non-naim speaker cables/interconnects in also another no-no, but i have never tried this (unlikely to ever); so i wont.

Cirkus.

I like the Cirkus, but it was not a significant upgrade. Less money into a good used Ittok WAS a great upgarde from an Akito.

I consider ditching a well-configured LP12 for any CD player, including the mighty CDS2, to be a side-grade if not outright downgrade

watch it james!!! i almost did this a year ago...
