Replica Guns WHY?
Posted by: oldie on 16 January 2004
After the "quite" interesting debate on a differant thread, I just thought I would ask the questioninWHY.In the centre of Brighton ,much the same as other town centers there is a shop that sells amoungst other killing paraphernaiia, ie knives a foot long etc. Replica guns, these are the raw material of most of the Drug culture killings in our town centers, as with access to a small piller drill they can be bored out to take bullets of a sort, Whilst it is illegal to buy a hand gun in this country, it is perfectly legal to buy one of these "possible" weapons. We don't normally hang F1ll's or tornado's on our fire places for decoration, or for that matter self propelled 120mm howitzers so why the need for these replicas.
Am I the only miserable old Sod to want to spoil others fun and have these replica guns banned?

I have a fasination for well made mechanical things, there is somthing inherantly nice about a precision object, such items include guns, watches exspensive ciggarette lighters and engines.
I dont smoke so i do not own any lighters, I have a car, but am not a mechanic so I have little contact with engines, but I do read about engine inovation and restoration.
I love watches and intend to expand my collection of mechanical watches when funds permit, later in life.
Guns are dangerous and provide a risk that is not acceptable in this day and age, and whilst in my opinion they remain perhaps the most well made mechanical objects I have no desire to own one, and even if people are realy interest in them, not for their intended purpose , meerly their value as a nice object, the risks of them being in circulation such that they can fall into the wrong habds is too high, and I agree that they do not need to be sold, and as such should be banned.

Yes it's me again! - I think traditionally, through the years 'kids' have played with weapons of some sort or another, whether it be bows and arrows, cowboys and Indians etc etc. Sadly it seems to have escalated (probably with assistance from the dear old media) to a stage wear it's getting a bit out of hand and as you mention there are replica magnums etc., which I think is a pretty irresponsible thing to sell given the fact that prospective purcahsers might (and indeed have) get shot if seen carrying a replica gun.
So, no I don't think it's too clever either.
I guess that make me a miserable old git too!
Incidentally I don't take any offence at people talking about mental illness etc. - I'm just someone trying to get by and work through his own issues as bet he can, which means trying to understand the ambivalence in many things.

I thought they had been banned
. They should be.
To bore out a Vostok is to create a timeless masterpiece.
To bore out a replica gun is to create a mindless b*stard's piece.

Who among us, hand on heart, can deny that what they really really want is to be just like the lads in "Face off" (or any other John Woo movie). Two gleaming black and/or gold 9mm pieces apiece. Backflipping while aiming and firing sideways (with arms crossed). Slow motion rain of spent shells. Magic. Innit.

Bet you would rather have a replica GWB than the real thing !!
Looks like his plan to invade Mars is beginning to happen now that Beagle 2 looks like as hard to find as Osama Bin Laden !

God help America.

Imagine though a reckless drunk shooter and a sane driver.
Different story, methinks.........

In that case the army would probably be well advised to fire its sane soldiers and replace them with reckless drunks. Imagine the terror an elite squadron of drunken para-drivers would strike into the enemy as they floated towards the ground in their civilian surplus Chevy Impalas.

What about a drunk driver in a really really fast car with GUNS ? I'm thinking Bond (James Bond) after one too many (very) dry Martinis. Imagine the killing power of that combo !
