Fantasy Garage

This is for NAIMGAME 'cos I know he's bored.
OK. Assuming you have a BMW 530d Touring parked outside for daily use, what vehicles would be in your Fantasy Garage ?
Pick five. Cars, motorbikes, anything with wheels, old or new, cost no object, you choose.
Think about it in bed tonight, and post tomorrow.
BTW if you're reading this Mick, Fantasy Garage does not mean Miss Whiplash and a rubber Postman Uniform.

There was a bike in one the mags a couple of months back I though looked rather cute, although I seem to recall it cost about £3,500 or so. Can't recall the name though.

Colnago C-40 with a record group springs to mind. The 'Ferrari' I could afford

I'm a bit of a lefty, pinko, commie bast, and I do like good buses (I'll be on one in about an hour). But I'm also keen on destroying the planet with petrol guzzling sportscars.
What am I (apart from a tosser)?
BTW no one really believes that sportscars compensate for fragile male egos do they ?
Just for the record, I do have a fragile male ego, and an unusually small penis, but I think that's just coincidence.
And Joe, where's the effing wheels ?

You live in Munich though, which has a very good public transport system. I lived on the eastern edge of the city (in Haar) and public transport from there to the city centre was superb.
I suspect I'm pining for another Christmas there - I brought a Stollen and some Lebkuchen into the office today! You'll just have to have a Gluhwein in Marienplatz for me...

Brian,
I was going to post pics of my favourite cars but truth is I don't have a favourite car. In fact, it's fair to say I don't give a rat's arse about cars.
The wifey and I reluctantly bought a subcompact two years ago and only because Lexington's public transport system is utterly useless. Otherwise, we would have been content walking or riding the bus like we did for the 35 years before we moved to the U.S. of eh.

It hasn't worked right since the disastrous M5 wargames.

Oooh - nice. And only £699 as well (I just missed a used one for £200 a couple of weeks back). In a fantasy garage I might have considered a Delite for touring duties but the Dawes is the traditional choice.

I think the Galaxy frame is a bit heavier than needed unless you do a lot of high-load touring.
I use a much lighter Raleigh frame in the summer, and a mountain bike in the winter. The garage also contains two old Dawes and about a hundred kids bikes, along with all my hifi cardboard boxes.
The Saab has to live on the fantasy driveway.

If money is no object then why only five cars??
1, Aston Martin Vantage, English class at its best!!
2 Ferrari 550 Marinello, the best Italy can offer.
3 Toyota Supra, customised to 900 BHP sheer stupidity and fun.
4 Range Rover V8 for practicality and taking the family out.
5 Noble GT12 convertable, cos it looks good!!

But I'd like space for the following
1. Ferrari 250LM - still the only real Ferrari!
2. Healey 3000 (Red/Cream) - in full works rally trim.
3. Porsche 911 Carrera 4 - for everyday use.
4. Golf GTi - for shopping.
5. 1923 Bentley open tourer (BRG) - for effortless posing.
I'd also like a lease on Jeremy Clarkson's airfield to drive them round

I would ilke to change one of my options to one of these:
But only if I can drive it over Jeremy Clarkson's fat head.

I really miss mine (1972 911S converted to RS) but marriage ended the affair - my wife HATED it! Amazing we actually got married really...
Strange, I still have a small photo of her (the 911) somewhere in my wallet and whistfully pull it out in moments of regret....
You know, I had a weekend with a LHD '72 911S 2.4 which was fantastic (apart from its handling on slippery Aberdeen roundabouts). Glorious noise and quick for a thirty year old car, no question.
Fantastic experience, and if I ever find one myself I will be very tempted indeed. Was your one the 2.4S, Richard? I'm not sure if there was anything less than 2.4, but I have a feeling there was a 2.2T...
My five cars would be:
Caterham R500 - as I don't have a bike license this would be the closest thing to a bike I could get...
A 911 of either pre-73 or post 91 vintage (forget the late-seventies and eighties cars)
Ferrari 250GTO (the Nick Mason car would do fine)
An Aston Martin - not fussy
(New) Mini Cooper RS in yellow. No such car exists yet, but believe me I am sure it will soon... Of course, this car would be stripped back and all the mods done, and I'd use it for my daily trip up the back-roads...

BMW 530d
Audi A4 2.5 TDI
Volkswagen Beetle in blue.
Volkswagen Golf GTI
A decent public transport system. In the meantime, don't force the above off the roads. Our lovely New Feudalist* government is good at exacerbating congestion in order to convince us that cars are a bad idea, whilst doing absolutely nothing to improve public transport.
*All stick and no carrot regarding transport incentives means that we peasants will be nailed to the land just as we were before the Industrial Revolution.
Non-peasants or freemen like Mick will have access to at least one Jag.
Regards,
Steve.
It's just a pleasure to hear music as it was intended to be heard.

TC,
good call (have you been sneeking around my fantasy garage??). I'd also have a 250 GTO and an Aston in my fantasy garage. Probably an Aston Martin DBR2 for the few sunny days we get during the summer... In racing tune, the Marek designed straight six has got be one of the most awesome automotive sounds around.
The 911 was a 2.4S converted to an RS replica. The engine was a blueprinted 2.7 RS unit. With 210bhp and a fraction of the weight of a later 911 it was scarily quick. In the wet it was just plain scary... Best bit was the noise the engine made, especially as you passed 3000rpm and revved to the limit. It's still firmly etched in my consciousness like all the best music...
Strange, here we are talking about cars and all I'm really interested in is the sound they make...

I have a friend with a 74 Alfa GTV and don't see a post for that, so it's my suggestion. Definitely a bit one sided but they are fun to drive and as my friend says that most Ferrari owners have one because it drives like a well balanced Ferrari and reliable. Over here in t he US they are cheap but have quite a loyal following. And fun, fun, fun on the road. I'd also put a word in for a Lotus for its great handling.

The difficulty of choosing is because cars etc can fulfill many uses.
1 Renault Alpine a 110 1600cc
2 Bentley Continental (new one, by VW)
3 Porsche 911 GT 2 or 3
4 Bristol 411 Series 3/4 or 5 but upgraded to latest spec by Bristol to modern engine brakes etc.
5 Mercedes SL 55 AMG current one with full house options pack.
If i lived in Southern Europe and had to make do with one of the above i would go for either the Merc or the Renault Alpine. I think.
If i had to include a bike it would be a Ducatti with a desmo engine.
regards David

My list would be:
- Aston Martin vanquish
- Land Rover defender (the short version)
- 62 or 63 Lincoln Continental in Black with black leather seats
- Ducati 999r
- Ducati ST4s
And trade the 530d touring in for a Volvo V70d

My fantasy garage:
Smart in metallic blue
L reg Fiat Cinquecento in black
Ford GT40
Lotus Elise mk1 in purple
Ducati 996
Harley Softtail, about 1990 with a bit of a custom makeover (chop)
New Gary Fisher mountain bike
Honda XT400 trail bike
Ford Ranger Thunder 4X4 pickup
Lexus IS 300 saloon
1968 fully restored Ford Mustang
How many am I allowed?
Did I mention the team of 3 semi-naked female car washers resident in the flat over the garage?
