New e-bay scam warning

Posted by: Michael_B. on 23 August 2006

Before Cymbiosis Peter came in to rescue me I found an SL2 on ebay which sold for £3,300 for which I was pipped to the post. Lucky me in some ways.

Anyway, I then received a "second chance" e-mail telling me the bid had been withdrawn and I could buy within 5 days, still receiving the "usual e-bay protection" etc. This was a scam. If you recieve any "second chance" e-mails be careful to check them out very thoroughly (including by contacting the seller through the e-bay page rather than replying to the "second chance" e-mail) before parting with any money.

Cheers

Mike, this exact thing happened too me too when bidding on a Nac 82 recently. I was sure the original advert was legitimate, just shows you, you need to be very careful. I reported it to ebay, but never got a reply or acknowledgement. I'm glad people on this forum are pointing them out.

Buyer beware!

If you can't spot these types of scams you deserve all you get.

As Michael_B says.

I recieved a 2nd chance offer and initially thought it was dodgy. But by contacting the seller directly and checking his feedback I picked up a lovely Linn piano black lacquer plinth for my LP12 - he had two more to sell after his initial auction.

So don't necessarily ignore it, just do due diligence.
