Mac into Supernait - cable?

Posted by: Hallgeir on 14 October 2009

Hi,

I've just a macbook pro with optical out and thought I'd connect this with Supernaits optical input in front. In order to this I need an optical cable with 3,5 minijack in both ends. The problem is that they seem to be hard to come by. Does anyone know where I can get a good cable with these connectors?

Best regards

Hallgeir,
Google- optical 3.5mm jack to 3.5mm jack cable.

Several choices there.

For some reason I can't use the url facility here.

You need a Mini TOSLink to TOSLink cable.

These are available from most of the major cable manufacturers (Chord, Supra, etc) though you may have to specially order them if you go into your local HiFi Dealer. You can get adaptors so that your Mini TOSLink connector can be used with a standard TOSLink cable, but I've heard varying reports on the success of these. Typing "Mini ToSLink to Toslink cable" into Amazon's search gave me three cable manufacturers (and various lengths) around £10-15.

PS. Sorry I missread. You want Mini TOSLink at both ends ... an Amazon search did bring me one result

I could get the adapters in shops right here, but I'm concerned this will effect the sound quality. So I really wanted to get one without them. I'm gonna use the digital input in front on the SN so I need optical 3,5 minijack in both ends. Guess I'll try one in the google search.

Thanks for your inputs!

I'm curious as to why you wouldn't use the toslink on the rear of the SN??

Is there a difference in sound quality?

Yea logic dictates use the back and when not using the mac you can hide the cable behind.

Get the gold plated ones they sound real good Winker

Only reason I wanted to use the front input is because of convinience. It seems difficult to get the cable I need so I guess I will have to get tos link in one end and use the rear. I don't know about the gold plated ones....but I find the Chord Optichord rather good (better than an old Monster cable I had). Guess I'll buy one of those.
