What's an Aconda...?

Just twigged what it is. Probably a dry joint. Shouldn't be too difficult for a TV repairman to fix, but probably more than £50 in the UK...

My parents had a lowe tv also, and I am pretty sure it was the aconda. Anyway, the very same thing happened and it is a known problem as I have read about it on forums elsewhere. This was the best picture I have seen on any TV: LCD, Plasma, CRT or what not. Anyway, they basically gave it up because it was going to cost them 700 dollars to fix and they figured they would just get a new LCD instead. I tried to convince them to fix it, but they just could not be bothered. I was out of town and when i came back it was gone. They just gave it to the "tv repairman" and he even charged them 100 bucks to haul it off. What a chiseler!
The upshot - I hope you can get yours fixed. I wish I could remember what the exact problem was - there was a technical explanation - maybe what Frank says but I dont remember. Wish I could be more help. NICE TV!

Thanks gents.
I've actually just found a ( dead ) Aconda free if I could take it away - which I did - and I plan to use it for parts if possible.

We've got a Loewe Cantus and have had this problem TWICE. The first time it was repaired under warranty and the second time (Out Of Warranty) I had to cough up something like AUS$100-200 for the part, call-out & repair.
I can't remember the exact details of the fault but it was something like a power regulator that blew. I was told (and from this forum it appears true) that it is not uncommon and is very repairable.
We've had this TV since a lightening strike took out the previous one in 2001 and although we've now got a 42" Panasonic plasma in another room - the Loewe still blows it into the weeds on picture quality.
Good luck on the repair.
