Whether he chain smoked or not I enjoyed his music, sepecially the 'Clues' & 'Pride' albums which I still listen to occasionally,

Such a shame. Not sure about his output in later years, but I loved his 70's stuff. He was doing music that no-one else was doing at the time, and although I don't have those LP's any more, I remember them very well. Double Fun was always my fave.

RIP Robert Palmer

I was born in Batley, a very small town in West Yorkshire, and for years told people I was from the same place as Robert Palmer. Saw an interview with him a couple of years ago and he said he was born in a complete dump in Yorkshire and his parents couldn't get him away from the place fast enough as a baby. No place to bring up a child they said. That was my claim to fame shot down!!

Great shame. Sad news.

Sad sad news, his new lp "Drive" is quite superb and marked not so much a return to form but a complete regeneration.
I've followed him since "Sneaking Sally" saw him live several times.

Does anyone have more details?
