could anyone tell me is it true that the cd2 comes in two different models? i.e having 2 different transport?

I have a CDM9Pro CD2. I can't contemplate upgrading it as it sounds damn good in a 82/super/250/allae system. Value for money is excellent also - my 1997 CD2 cost me £925 two years ago.

The CD2 is exceleent, my 1997 one cost me £800 earlier this year (just serviced by Naim with new mechanism decoder and boards) and took a few weeks to burn in again
In a recent A/B with my CDS2/XPS in my main system (52/500/SBL/Fraim) it was an extremely close run thing.

Nice to see so many CD2 fans. Despite the excellence of the CDS2, I miss the out-and-out animal that the CD2 was on pop music. Problem was, it did sound a bit unsatisfying with classical IMO.
Second hand it sounds like very good value. Is there not a problem sourcing replacement CDM9/9pro mechs though?

Tim et al--
Count me in among the CD2 fans. I owned one of the ones with the CDM9Pro and it was fantastic. The CDX/XPS is undoubtedly better but can sound less relentless.
And as I understand it CDM9Pro transport availability IS a problem.
Best,
Bob

I also own a cd2 and enjoy it very much.
Dimex (canada distributor) and Naim service told me earlier this year that they still have enough transport in order to meet repear demands for the new few years.
If anybody as another take on this, please let everybody know!
while we're on the subject and between cd2 lovers (We should be considered a tribe really
), why don't we share tips and views on the player? For example, unlike the cdx, the CD2 has spring suspension. Does this have any effect on the support requirements?

Oh wow - okay this is gonna get reallyesoteric...
Mine sounded pretty good on the Mana Reference table that it was originally on. I don't usually buy the argument that Mana makes things sound 'harsh' but the CD2's bass sounded a bit thin until I tried putting a compliant support (A Townsend Seismic Sink) between it and the Mana.
Then the player just took off and I had one of those listening sessions when you just can't tear yourself away for hours.
In theory I guess components with springs in them (eg LP12s) should work best when on very solid, spiked supports. And in practice I guess that by putting a compliant support under a CD2 (thereby interfering with the frequency or whatever of its suspension) what I was actually hearing was mud. But it sounded grrrreat.
By the way, CD2 owners should take pride that their CD player was the last made with Naim's original implementation of the Phillips Crown TDA1541 DAC. After the CD2 it was all those Burr-Brown thingies...

I recently bought a Cd2 as well and realy enjoy it. Had a initial problem with it not accepting some cd's (made a 'scraping sound like when the puck does'nt quite has the strenght of connecting the cd to the transport and the player goes 'err'). The dealer fixed it and explained to me that it is of the utmost importance to gently put a cd in the (magnificent) drawer and gently put the puck on the cd. To much pressure doing this (like showing to your friends that the cd2 has a spring suspension motor by pushing it down) and it will damage, or better, decalibrate (?) the laser/motor and it will refuse some discs. Well, that's what the guy (a former Naim dealer) told me.
Sometimes in the morning just before I am off to work I decide to play just one song and half a cd later must come to the conclusion I am too late again.

I bought a CD2 s/h with a CDM9 pro. I had to replace the mechanism a few month later, and got the cd2 back with CDM9 in the box.
Although I am listening very carefully to my system and that, according to the swiss army listening test, my ears are in perfect condition, I have noticed no significant difference between the two mechanism.
Some will argue that the swiss army does the test before our 4 month of delightful patriotic shell experience, but this is another topic.
