new dog - any useful advice please

We as a family have finally decided to get a puppy Schnauzer dog mainly for my daughter as shes wanted one for years....so the time is right at the moment to go ahead and wondered if there were any Schnauzer owners out there who could give sensible advice. We already have done some research so have decided on buying one from a credited breeder we have also decided on a miniature schnauzer dog as in a boy. We know that they are very good with kids and families and by all accounts do not moult so much as other breeds.
Your input is welcome.
Scotty.

DONT EVER FEED IT YOUR FOOD ....
I have a poodle. he is such a twat.
I feed him dry food ( less messy, no sloppy poohs etc...)
If the kids feed him real food .... he will then refuse to eat. He cans starve himself for almost a week. It is really ridiculous.
So funny. he won't eat till i am home. then he stuffs himself whilst i am in the kitchen. If i leave the kitchen he stops eating.
Changing the subject... the poor little thing is real nervous.... if my oldest daughter comes in (18... just moved out... yes i am free from the evil one) the poor bugger runs out in the garden and shakes frantically in rain or sunshine and refuses to come in. I have to physically carry him in.

I called my toy poodle DUDLEY. ha ha... i just thought it was a real stupid unusual name.

by all accounts schnauzers are prone to dodgy kidneys and have been advised to keep the rich human food out of his diet...so will only feed him "proper" doggy food. munch, the name rests with my daughter - but im working on it! - thought paulo would suit personally.

I envy you getting a dog. We aren't allowed pets in our development. When I had 2 Labaradors previously we insured through the NFU, which gave every bit as good cover as PetPlan but at a significantly lower cost. Worth a look at least. You don't have to be a farmer to insure with NFU!
