My 70-200mm lens... that was lucky.

Last summer, I convinced the ex-girlfriend that I neeeeeeeded a Canon 70-200mm f2,8 L IS. To do that I sold my old EOS 20D, a lens, a load of DVDs, and spent nothing for a month. I bought it off a trusted Ebay seller for £950, including delivery.
I'd heard that Canon and Nikon had recently increased their prices so took a peek at Ebay again. GULP!! A second hand one just sold for £1,206!'My' seller has them new, Buy It Now for £1,325 and warehouseexpress has them new at £1,550 (was about £1,250).
How lucky was that? I should have bought a dozen!

Nice work.
Another reason to invest in quality lenses, rather than a series of marginally improving bodies. The lenses just get more valuable while the bodies become thow-aways.
It's always nice to feel like we've gotten a "deal". Hardly ever happens to me, though.

Such is the weakness of the pound. The price hasn't changed here.

I think my next body will be a secondhand 1D series. My 40D is great, but having seen the results from a 5Mp full size sensor there's little point buying a 60 or 70D when they arrive with 20 something Mp.
And a 1D looks cool!

Good point B-head. I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't spot that one. Unfortunately, my salary here in Canada is designated in GBP and converted at the current rate. I feel the weakness of the pound in my hip pocket every month.

A month or so ago I decided to get myself get an EF 24-105 f4L to go with my anticipated 5D mk2 so I happened to be on Amazon & noticed a second-hand one up for sale at 500 quid. It's truly immaculate, no sign of it being used. Now I notice the official price has jumped to over £800! It's currently residing on my old faithful 300D, but obviously it's pining for a full-frame sensor so it can give of its best.
I placed an order with the BT shop for the 5D, at £1850. They didn't have any in stock but gave a delivery estimate of a week. Since then I've received eight E-mails putting the date back, latest to early March.
I'm a bit miffed as I wanted it IMMEDIATELY (as you do) but as they've agreed to hold the price to my original order I'm content to wait a bit longer; watching the price elsewhere it's jumping up by the day.

Am still very happy with the D2X in my studio, but clients are starting to want to use the pics at A4 and larger sizes. And 12Mp doesnt really hack it at that size for pro publishing.
Unfortunately the D3X is loadsamoney. And I have a deep rooted philosophical disagreement with upscaling a photo in both dimensions at once -- the maths simply doesnt work.

My own story:
I was at my dealer early last december to buy the 70-200 F4 L IS I wanted. When I was at the cash to pay it, a guy called to cancel its 5D MKII reservation they just received. I was almost surprised to hear myself saying ''I take it''.
And I left the store with the 70-200, a 5DMKII, a 16GB card, an extra battery, and a Kata slingshot bag. OUCH...
Now I have to decide if I keep my 40D. I want to test the 5D in fast action, summer will give me more oportunities...

Yep. When I see one of these new trendy dig cameras match what film and my Imacon scanner can produce, I
may buy one....And I won't even be unfair and mention 120 or 5x4 formats.
I've seen some stunning tiffs off a Hasselblad H3D II, but you're looking at a £20k body...
I had a very funny moment (and not the first time on my travels) a few days ago, sitting in a bar in Singapore. The young (lucky if he was 20) bar waiter served me my Guinness and then clocked my Leica M hanging on my knee - "Wow! What's
THAT ? Man, why you walking around town with such an old camera ? Can I look...Wow, that's a real antique! Where can I see the pictures on the back...? - Erm, well, not really, it's an old design yes, but... - Yeah, but in this digital age, don't you want a modern camera ? -
Why ? I say..... - Well, "Cos everything is so much clearer"............
