Which band have you seen play live the most times, & how many times?

Posted by: 555 on 20 January 2008

I haven't found an old thread for this one ...

I get to go 1st.

At the risk of excessive (now realise perhaps why there is no old thread!!) ...

New Order - 142 times

Must give that figure a tolerance of+/- 3. Oh yes ,some of these shows are very hazy memories Red Face

A lot of bands i have seen i have maybe gone to see them around 4 times but Ian Brown i have seen 8 times.

The Moody Blues, 9 or 10 times. No-one else comes close. I love 'em, and they make me feel good. But with Ray Thomas retired now, and the core group reduced to a trio (a la Genesis or Pink Floyd) I haven't seen them in a few years; for me, some of the magic has gone.

I'd love to see a (one-time?) reunion of the band with Mike Pinder and Ray back on board, maybe at the Albert Hall (a good place to film a DVD.) Fire that Mellotron up!

Approx 25 times, lost count. Haven't seen him for the last few tours, though wish i'd seen the Seeger Sessions band. Saw him 13 times on the River tour in the early 80's. Met him twice, nice bloke.

New Order only once on first tour post Joy Division - awesome. Had all the early singles the second they hit the streets.

I'm into double figures with Zimmie and I cannot, for obvious reasons, remember the amount of times I saw Hawkwind as a kid. Must be pretty close to double figures with Van the Man and John Martyn 'n all.

I'm jealous - I'd have loved to have seen 'em!

Oooh a difficult one this what with festivals and the like, but I think it's probably still Siouxsie & The Banshees. For some bizarre reason they were one of the few bands who came to play at the Chelmsford Odeon just down the road from where I used to live (apart from Showwaddywaddy and David Essex). I also remember having a punk girl throw up over my head at the Hammersmith Palais once ; what an honour! Probably only seen them about 6 or 7 times though. To be honest, given the choice I prefer to see new bands rather than the same band all the time. And as for New Order 142 times!! Gadzooks! Twice was enough for me!

Nice thread though! Should get some interesting replies......

Hi Steve

I confess to being completely rabidly fanatical about NO. I agreed with John Peels' take on NO - when they were on form they were the best live band in the world, but when there shows went wrong, which was often ...

I Would loved to have seen Siouxsie & The Banshees! What were they like live?

Sadly also New Order,

Kilburn 1982
Brixton 1983
Portsmouth 1984
Slough 1985
Brighton 1986
Wembley 1987

555 - you probably know Andy Weatherall then?

Hi Jono

No I've never met Andy Weatherall.
I've always been painfully shy when the opportunity to meet heroes has occurred. I've only introduced myself to NO once a couple of years ago, & that was because I realised it was probably my last chance!

John,

I only ask as we were at school together and he, along with a gang from the Windsor area, was a regular attendee at various New Order gigs.

Saw Dr Feelgood about 12 times in the Wilko/Brilleaux days. About the most exciting thing around at the time.

Led Zeppelin 6 times
The Who 5

Pete Brown's Battered Ornaments about five or six times, can't quite remember. They were the "resident" Sunday evening band at the Toby Jug in Tolworth & had various line-ups. Chris Spedding on guitar plus Pete himself is all I can recall now.

One night there were so few in the audience we all got up on stage with them!

I saw Rory Gallagher about six times, mainly due to the fact that he toured so much!

Budgie four times.

John are you a little NO OCD? Winker

Siouxsie was the first gig I ever saw. I was an impressionable 15 y.o. and had barely seen a girl out of school uniform (no tittering at the back please) and Siouxsie strides on stage in High heeled boots, fishnets, war paint, a basque and not much else with a major 'Fuck off' attitude I was enthralled. I think there was drool coming out the side of my mouth. The gig was post Sid but what a gig. Saw them once after that and have no memory of it but whooooa what a first gig.

Sadly not as many times as Steve Frown

Only twice - '79 and '80, both at Ipswich Gaumont and at the height of his powers. The programmes are framed and hanging on our downstairs cloakroom wall.

Maybe only twice, but even though they are almost 30 years ago I remember as vividly as any recent gig; and he introduced me to 'live' music - the most committed performer I have ever seen. Very sadly missed.

Gomez five times. Kula Shaker and Badly Drawn Boy four times each.

John

Fortunately or unfortunately I am not very shy when it comes to meeting my heroes or artists I like. Once having drunk too much and booled into Pauline Penetrations back stage area. Had a nice chat tho.................... life is too short mate - just say hi and get the cd signed.......or in my case probably best just to not let me in the gig in the first place.

Very frustrating searching for The Redskins recordings on eBay!

I had a couple of singles by them and remember loving their raw anger and ability to put out a good tune. Remember them a v political which at the time was no bad thing. Slipped off my radar as my tastes changed. Never saw them live tho
