Vampire Weekend: Soweto beat meets college-boy indiepop
Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 31 January 2008
Here is a rather unlikely treat to cheer up your weekend.
Nothing about this album should work. Firstly it is a truly rubbish name for a band who look about as goth as my grandma. Secondly they play an odd mix of slightly preppy and intellectual pop mixed with african beats and guitar.
However, if you want something to slap you round the cheeks and get you smiling then go buy.
A bunch of sharp, shiny and infectious tunes that never overstay their welcome and where the slinky african guitar parts will have you hopping around the house.
Sure it peters out a bit by the end but the best bits are genuinely great.
Check out the MySpace page for a taster. If the track/video 'Apunk' doesn't get you awake this morning you may already be dead.
