NAT 01 facelift

Posted by: davidf on 18 April 2001

I thought I would report to all you naim lovers about a facelift for my old style 01. I have an old 01 circa 1989. It had been losing the stereo signal and I thought it would need a realignment of the tuner head. When I spoke to dave dever at NANA he suggested I have it upgraded to a new style 01 with full cosmetic conversion as well as updating the innards to match a current 01. Well, after waiting 3 months, I finally got it back the other day ( it had to go to england). Well, it is quite exciting. First of all, it is 100% new-look. I can now see what station is tuned in. On my old 01 the display was so dim I could hardly see it from 5 feet away. The cases now match my 82/supercap/cdx. Only my 250 is still old style. Secondly, I believe it does sound better though I haven`t given it enough time to warm up yet. This could be placebo effect of the beautiful new look! The reception is slightly better, by the way. At any rate, if you have an old 01, I would recommend considering this upgrade if you use your tuner alot, especially if your 01 needs a tune-up.

Hmmm

Can the same be done for the 250?

The fact that mine is only old style kit I have, is pure coincidence.

Gulp - I hope you got almost a whole tuner for that. I've got an old 01 which I'm sure needs a re-cap and re-set-up but that kinda money is getting close to the difference between flogging my tuner and buying a new 01.

Does the $1650 include the flight?

basically, dave dever told me that the tuner is essentially rebuilt and the power supply is the new type. In other words, it is as new. I am told that new 01s are quite different in significant ways. I looked at is as I use my tuner alot. If I sold it I probably couldn`t get more than $1000 tops and it would then cost me $2700 plus tax to get a new one. Now, I basically have a new 01 for $1650. To me this makes sense. Now I hope that FM broadcast continues for many years. I only paid $2200 for the tuner in 1989- it was a demo. So basically, I laid out the cost of a new 01 spread over 11 years and my tuner is "new" now. For those of you who haven`t heard an 01 with a good roof antennae, it is absolutely fabulous! With live broadcasts it is about as good sounding as my cdx! WFUV in NYC is the best station, period. regards, david.

But Digital Radio sounds disgusting. Like poor MP3.

I'm almost certain you can get your amps "new styled" (or is that "classic" a la coke). But how much does NANA charge?
