OK, Ok...
Before anyone gets riled up, the answer is NO - I didn't buy a SACD player. So don't be expecting a review here
BUT...I was in Best Buy and Whoa!!! They now have a display for SACD and a (small for now) section for the disks. They also have a $300ish SACD player and a mini-system that is SACD compatible.
Best Buy now has both SACD and DVD-A in house. The SACDs sell for a not-unreasonable $16ish while the DVD-As are $20+. It seems the format war (er, maybe just a meaningless battle if neither format catches on) is on.
Are folks from other parts of the globe seeing SACD and DVD-A arriving in their home towns?

Both Tower and Borders in Rockville have a wide range of Fleetwood Mac DVD-As and Billy Joel SACDs. Wonderful.
Interestingly I've noticed Brian Eno's back catalogue is being released on SACD.

...I almost sprang for the Alice Cooper Welcome to My Nightmare DVD-A.
Funny how the titles Mo-Fi pressed keep re-emerging.

New format and a price hike, there's a surprise, but you will still be buying (should you wish) DVD's at the same price that Europeans pay for CD's. There is a possible positive side. There was a glorious period when the US of A decided that they could no longer sell vinyl, in fact it seemed that they could no longer bear to have the wretched stuff in the country and so they shipped it off to England. A sort of 'lets dump our old technology on the third world'. As a result Tower Records Jazz section was awash with bargains.
