Help the economy!

Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 28 November 2008

I'm having new music starvation, don't think I've bought anything much for ages. I'm going shopping this weekend and I want a new CD or two.

C'mon guys give me some ideas, something that might float my boat!

I'm talking Americana, pop/indie, modern folk. You know my tastes. My last purchases were Lambchop; Oh Ohio, Calexico: Carried to Dust and The Walkmen: You and Me.

Anyone given the new Nitin Sawhney a whirl?

I heard some snippets on Myspace of the School of Seven Bells which seemd interesting. Worth a punt? Amazon keep suggesting Bon Iver.

Help the economy, help me buy some music this weekend!

Top stuff guys.

I own Bonnie Prince Billy (one of the albums of the year for me) and I've Handsome Family/Hold Steady/Iron + Wine but a few of the others are new to me.

I'll get shopping. Huwge is ALWAYS telling me to buy the Felice Bros, maybe I'll relent!

Have yourselves a good weekend.

Alela Diane - Pirates gospel

Felice bros album is ok but they awesome live

Frightened Rabbit recent album (more indie but i know you like the National)- Midnight organ Flight

Listen to the weekly podcast of Npr: All songs considered for great tips and ideas for great music

Bon Iver is one of my albums of the year

Decemberists, not sure which album but Colin Malloy has had a well recieved release this year.

Blitzen Trapper: ‘Furr’

Drive-by Truckers: ‘Brighter Than Creations Dark’

Sun Kil Moon: ‘April’ - my album of the year, wonderfully stripped down, bare, emotionally intuitive from the people who brought you the Red House painters.

The Mountain Goats: ‘Heretic Pride’

Cool side of indie with a little dance thrown in try -

Bowerbirds - Hymns for a Dark horse - simply beautiful

Might be worth checking through myspace at the artists to see what floats your boat.

Enjoy the exploration Cool

regards

Glad somebody else bought the Essex Green Album. A little gem.

Just feeling like a new music infusion.

Party like its 1998 with this one and only album by Sunhouse. The reviews here agree with me that you will be won over by Gavin Clarke. The good news is that Gavin is still going stong with Clayhill.

Agree. You know there is more than one...they kind of remind me of the Magic Numbers a bit.

I like the sound of that sunhouse. Never heard it before. Reminds me of Richard Hawley a bit.

Also - continuing on -- again not all of these are new but,

French Kicks
M83
Apples In Stereo
High Llamas newer albums
Steve Almaas
Eliot Smith (expecially XO album ...pretty obvious)
Jesse Malin
Stew
Ollabelle
Clem Snide
Ron Sexsmith

Well FWIW I never go out to the shops that weekend due to varous problems

I have however managed to lay my hands on the Bon Iver (which is growing on me), Death Cab For Cutie (which I liked straight off) and I'm waiting for a delivery with a few more bits and bobs.

But my biggest find has to be the NPR All songs considered podcast. Diccus I owe you a big beer. Cracking podcast lots of things I liked but more than that how nice to listen to a broadcast about music itself rather than presenter ego!.

Bruce

Thanks all.
