just received my shm cds from japan , free fire and water and cream disraeli gears.first free ,this was different from the british pressing, it sounded like it had been remixed which it had not been guitars sounded easier to follow and drumming clearer .the cream cd was not the new deluxe remaster but the first remaster which i thought was better , again the sound was good with the group easier to follow .these are not impressive cd more natural.has anybody else got any different titles on shms cds

Funny you should ask, I have just posted this elsewhere.

Anybody tried any other SHM CDs? They have some good titles but most seem to be around in good sound anyway. It is only the plastic that differs, so no re-mastering. More snake oil perhaps?

I own the Original Exodus CD release (Tuff Gong), & I have the MFSL GOLD & SHM CDs on order.

I'll post my conclusions asap.

I would be very interested in the outcomme 555. I have held back from buying the MFSL on these discs cause some folk think they are not the best versions. The opriginal Tuff Gong you have is it mastered by Barry Diament?

The CD says "Remastered from the original tapes by Barry Diament ..." so sounds like the version you have in mind ewemon.

The cat. no. is #422-846 208-2, & it sounds very good so I hope this will be an informative comparison with the MFSL GOLD & SHM releases.

I have been holding back too, so I'm hoping this will provide some quality related answers Cool

Yep that is the one. Personally I have nevr heard the MFSL on this ones but people I respect claim that the Barry Diament versions are the best sounding.

Thanks for that ewemon & interesting.

I also own Uprising, Survival, Confrontation, Kaya & Natty Dread - all TG Barry Diament versions & all sound good. I got them 2nd hand all together for pennies in Brixton market.

Whatever my conclusions I'm going to have a few CDs to sell.
Time set up a fake eBay account Winker

Received two discs today Smile

Comparing Exodus - MFSL GOLD V TG Barry Diament is a very close run thing.

TG is very good & it's the classic mix I'm used to. MFSL GOLD has much more detail, esp' noticeable for percussion. Sound-stage clearer & bass is even firmer! Mix is different so I'll have to give it a few spins. If I had to choose one CD now MFSL would just beat TG, but that might change.

Should get the shm cd of Exodus in a day or two.

2nd CD is ...

... which I compared to the 1988 German release.
MFSL wins by miles, but I'm sure that's no surprise!

JM is a hero of mine, & strong contender for most underrated act.
Perhaps it's a minor echo of his career that he hasn't made it in to that thread (yet)!

May I ask what you paid for Exodus Barry Diament pressing?

Cheers.

oh, has your RLJ (first album) arrived yet?
Posted on: 14 February 2008 by 555
£4 (smug Graemlin), but I confess it was dumb luck!

I received Pirates a few days ago & it's a cracker. After two listens of it I ordered Girl at Her Volcano & RLJ eponymous 1st (neither have arrived yet), so thanks for the rec'.

I have a feeling this is the beginning of something special in my musical world Smile

Her anthology is great too Winker

$7 sounds good, clearly I didn't get the bargain I 1st thought for mine.

Where are you getting your shm cds from?
I'm seeing some silly prices on eBay, EIL, etc.
Best I've found so far is ...

cdjapan dot co dot jp

... but not cheap P&P.
I have placed an order for one to give 'em a try.
Any shopping tips gratefully received!

You should also try hmv.co.jp. Cost is usually about the same as cdjapan but shipping a little bit dearer.

The cheapest postage stills gets to you quite quickly. I don't think I've waited more than a couple of weeks max.
