just received my shm cds from japan , free fire and water and cream disraeli gears.first free ,this was different from the british pressing, it sounded like it had been remixed which it had not been guitars sounded easier to follow and drumming clearer .the cream cd was not the new deluxe remaster but the first remaster which i thought was better , again the sound was good with the group easier to follow .these are not impressive cd more natural.has anybody else got any different titles on shms cds

Supertramp - 'Crime of the Century' and 'Crisis What Crisis' arrived today and have received some heavy rotation.

Bloody fabulous. Clarity, space, analogue-like smoothness, detail and a lovely tight slam.

John.

I got the Best of album John and agree totally. I just ordered "Paris" on the strength of it. And Supertramp was a band of whom I was rather dismissive in their heyday. More fool me! Do you Bedini new discs as they get their first play?
Posted on: 12 September 2008 by 555
I've given up comparing; all my discs are zapped with BC before playing Chris.
Posted on: 12 September 2008 by Chris Kelly
Thanks John. A BC now on the shopping list.

Best deal I know of is from the Bedini website direct.
If you look in 'used equipment' you'll find new cosmetic 2nds which are very good VFM.
Quadri Beam models are the best.

Could be I’ve got my cloth ears on today but LZ 1 4 and PG have left me somewhat unconvinced. I’ll have to do some back to back listens. Might be having an off listening day. Can’t put my finger on it but… Oh I don’t know. Something doesn’t sound quire right. Maybe it’s me.

Cheers

sorry htk you did not enjoy you led zepp cd , but i think that if you do compare the standard cd you will find that there is a improvement over the standard issue .the shm cd do not make a chalk to cheese improvement but a better listen.for some reason some more than others.hope you are not put off by this and you try one or two other titles .

There's a large number of new SHM CD releases listed on HMV JPN.
They are scheduled for early Dec, so time to send that letter to Santa. Winker

HTK

There are some very cheap VA samplers (One standard CD & one SHM CD,
both with the same content) which might be of interest to you.

Cheers - John

htk , just had a listen to led zep 3 track gallows pole , while not at first impressive i found i could hear lots more detail coming off this cd drumming easier to follow and backing vocals that im sure that i have not heard on my standard cd .

On CD Japan all 13 customer feedback ratings are 5* for the LZ Box set.

Just giving the Best of Chuck Berry on Geffen/SHM a spin. Great stuff!
Posted on: 19 September 2008 by HTK
Chuck Berry is here and will be next up on the CDP. I’ve been impressed with everything I’ve heard so far on SHM-CD, but the LZ SHM-CD catalogue just doesn’t do it for me. You can’t expect miracles but I’ve listened to the lot three times, then dug out my 2003 Japanese limited edition paper sleeve set, which sounds superior to me. Less grainy, more rhythmic and similarly detailed but with a balance that appeals more. The SHM-CDs will have to go. The five star ratings from everyone else only goes to show what a subjective area we’re in and how my idea of agony is another’s idea of paradise. Ah well, it was ever thus. That’s why I don’t read equipment reviews.

must agree with j.n the supertramp cds are super .did not think that they could get so close to the vinyl versions . just as a foot note i notices in the breakfast in america there was a numbered card but not in the others anyone got different .

Chuck Berry sounded marvellous. Raw and rough in many places but totally realistic – and the feet don’t lie. That’s more like it.

Hell had a go on LZ4 and thought it tended towards gritty. She could take it or leave it but sees no advantage in keeping the SHM-CD. I expect we've probably both got cloth ears. But there you go.

Fair play to you HTK, & BTW my comment re: customer FB on CD JPN wasn't directed at you. I've still not listened to my copy of the LZ box set, so what do I know?! Red Face

I played Herbie Hancock 'Dis is Da Drum' SHM last night.
It sounds excellent to my ears, & much better then my standard CD copy. Smile

Didn’t think it was. We know how this goes, different people, ears, brains, systems, rooms – and that’s just for starters. I wouldn’t say the LZ SHM-CD catalogue is by any stretch “bad”. But I can bear to part with mine. I still have quite a few more titles on order.

Big thumbs up for Led Zeppelin's "Physical Graffiti" SHM CD.

One of my favourite albums. Anyone waiting for the set will be OK based on this one.

Must add that I didn't have the original Japanese ones to compare though.

I've received my 1st package from CD JPN using the discrete shipping option.
They've put the the usual cardboard box in a brown paper envelope.
This makes the package larger, so perhaps more noticeable?
Although this package didn't attract any attention,
I don't think I'll use this option again.

Hi guys
Just back from a fab 2 weeks away. Loads of packages and only one caught the dreaded HMRC eye. Got a feast of listening to soften the blow of being back in the old routine! Lots of Traffic, Elton and Eric to get stuck into.
