just received my shm cds from japan , free fire and water and cream disraeli gears.first free ,this was different from the british pressing, it sounded like it had been remixed which it had not been guitars sounded easier to follow and drumming clearer .the cream cd was not the new deluxe remaster but the first remaster which i thought was better , again the sound was good with the group easier to follow .these are not impressive cd more natural.has anybody else got any different titles on shms cds

It's called the "Ultra Clarifier". I got the "Upcoming Artists" email from CDJapan today and it describes several new releases as "HQCD". Does anyone know what that actually means - besides the obvious!

Also just got an email from HMV Japan saying that "Tommy" and the Jackson Browne releases have been cancelled. Bummer.

I am sorry those have been cancelled. But nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the arrival of my three Rory Gallagher's (Live in Europe, Irish Tour and Calling Card) and Stone Roses released on SHM-CD yesterday.

Stray Cats and days Of Future Passed have landed on the mat. The former is very good, a quintessential SHM-CD poster boy. Clarity, space and detail that I have never heard. Don’t know how much hope to hold out for the Moos, we are going back into the 60s after all, but here’s hoping.

Cheers

Had an interesting evening at Graham Russell's yesterday, along with James N of this parish and John N, our friendly dealer. The main agenda was to hear an HDX which John supplied and a couple of external DACs and a Sonos unit. But towards the end of the eve we did a bit of other stuff. We compared SHM and "standard" CDs of, as far as we could tell, the same versions of "Experience Hendrix" and the Who's "Live at Leeds". In both cases ("All Along the Watchtower" and "My Generation" were the tracks we used, all 4 of us were unanimous - SHM sounded a lot better. To conuse things even more, I took along my Quadri beam Bedini Clarifer and we did several before and after tests. In every single case, the CD sounded much better after being Bedinied. Even the most sceptical of us was totally convinced. Spinning a disc on the Bedini has already become of the music playing ritual for me but it was good to have some unbiassed confirmation that I am not just imagining the benefit!

Days Of Future Past is another SHM-CD tour de force. At least to my ears on my system. I suppose a good recording will always be just that. So if anyone fancies a punt, it gets a big thumbs up here.

Cheers

I agree HTK, it's a great SHM-CD. Mind you, my original vinyl copy ("Decca Deramic Sound System")is even more excellent - IMO the best quality Moodies recording of all.

Lou Reed’s turn for a spin today. Berlin and Transformer are in and the latter got its first outing. I was a bit betwixt and between about ordering these because I’ve only had the cardboard sleeve remasters for a year and a half and have been very pleased with them. It seems the game has moved on with the SHM-CD. There is a richness of texture coupled with increased clarity and spatial portrayal that for me makes Transformer on SHM-CD compelling. The rasp seems to have been rubbed off without throwing anything good away. Suspicious this was me being self delusional I dug out last year’s remaster and the difference is unambiguous. There is no doubt. Nice result. It’s been a good week.

Cheers

I ordered Metallica´s Death Magnetic on SHM-CD just for kicks.

Same distortion/clipping...but much more listenable.

More dtails, richer, more transperent...cool.

I like it.

I received three packages (two disks in each) of SHM CDs yesterday.
One was in 'discreet' packaging, & the other two standard.
They had all been detected so £48.75 to pay.
My dear postie didn't ask me for any money, which was nice! Big Grin

Glad your postie let you get away with it, but this is the reason why I have had all my SHM-CDs shipped singly. Slightly higher postage, but not as high as HMRC's tariff!

The last of my present order of four arrived this morning - Rory Gallagher, 'Calling Card'. Simply superb.

Wise words James; I've now split all my orders at CD JPN to one disc per order.

Just listened to Tom Waits 'Swordfishtrombones' - fantastic!

This morning I received Bach Organ Recital played by Karl Richter on the organ in the Victoria Hall, Geneva in 1955 and just remastered.

I'm not normally given to extreme expressions, but this plays as I type and it's the most awesome recording I've ever heard.

My system's doing things it's never done before - the whole house is shaking from the bass notes; truly astonishing!

For those who know the pieces, the interpretation is wonderful - majestic and very moving.

If you want to know how good SHM-CDs can be, get your hands on this disc. Even if you don't enjoy classical music, by the end of the disc you will...

Had to pay £13.38 on two 2 disc packets yesterday:-(( Only £5.38 of that was tax, the rest was sheer profiteering by Royal Mail. But the music is great! Cool

The First 2 Spencer Davis Group albums, with extra tracks, "Days of Future Passed" and "Madman Across the Water". That Karl Richter album is en route - really looking forward to hearing it now!

I've been pleased with the few I've heard Mike.

Beethoven: Symphony No.5

J.Strauss: Die Fledermaus

Sibelius: Works

If you aren't sure there are excellent SHM CD samplers for under US$10. These consist of two discs with the same contents, one standard & one SHM CD - Have You Ever Been Experienced? SHM-CD Compilation: Classical Edition
