just received my shm cds from japan , free fire and water and cream disraeli gears.first free ,this was different from the british pressing, it sounded like it had been remixed which it had not been guitars sounded easier to follow and drumming clearer .the cream cd was not the new deluxe remaster but the first remaster which i thought was better , again the sound was good with the group easier to follow .these are not impressive cd more natural.has anybody else got any different titles on shms cds

My Karl Richter SHMcd arrived this morning. Good grief! The entire place was shaking by about the second bar of track one! Amazing music and awesome sound quality. My Audiovectors have rarely had such a workout!

Any ideas what a "Blue-spec" CD might be? The latest email from CDJapan lists some Miles Davis albums on that format.

A load of the Kinks back catalogue coming out on SHMcd soon too.

got the karajan/berlin late mozart symphonies yesterday. listened to them last night.

the disks sound better than the original, but the performance and the recording are nothing special.

amazon charged $124 for this set. thankfully, they accepted them for return and gave me a refund.

so ends my experiment with shm-cd.

SHM was never going to improve on the performance or the recording!(The old "You can't polish a turd" maxim!) Don't dismiss SHM until you have heard an album that you know and like given an SHM release.

Ah well that does limit it for you. The pop/rock/jazz catalogues are definitely more comprehensive.

new blu-spec cd seems to be a spin off from blu-ray dvds .the disc is burnt the same way , with improved sound .about 80 titles to come out on sony label.bob dylan , elo , simon and garfunkel ,the byrds and sade some of the cds to come out .
Posted on: 13 November 2008 by Chris Kelly
How do you get to know all this stuff Keith? Roll Eyes

I wonder how it will compare with the SHM improvement.

Hi Keith apparently what it means is that the aluminium data layer is cut with a blue laser.
Supposedly this makes the pits cleaner so better sound.

Oh gawd! I suppose that means we're all going to have to replace our SHMs? Winker

What amazes me is that the manufacturers keep bringing new "better" performing CD formats and then the big guys fill them up with over produced and loud rubbish. If they can hear a difference of what is recorded on them, why can't they hear how they are recorded/engineered?

there is a bit of a write up on cdjapan about blue-spec cds and a list of titles .

Has anyone heard a blue-spec cd?

Bach Organ Recital played by Karl Richter

My copy arrived today & I see what you mean Tony.
Sounds fantastic, but it also revealed I have a loose filling! Winker

Glad you're enjoying it 555, but don't listen to it too much or else you'll have a loose house as well! Big Grin

Could the Richter Scale be named after Karl Richter?

I've just had Dire Straits, Dire Straits and Neil Young, Unplugged.

I am very pleased with them. On my system at least, they do not sound in any way artificially enhanced like remastered CDs so often do (sadly) just much more ...em... natural sounding.

Analogue in fact! Roll Eyes

If you are unable to find decent CD recordings best stick to vinyl James.

Just ordered the two Santana albums in Blue-spec. "Caravanserai" and "Abraxas" are among my all time favourites so it will be interesting to contracst and compare them with the Legacy editions and, for "Abraxas", the MFSL gold version too.

I'll be very interested in your view.

Having googled 'blu-spec cd' the theory seems plausible enough to someone like me with little technical knowledge. But presumably, and reading what Linn claim for the benefit of their DS players which seems similarly plausible, this type of technology is redundant if you go the hard-disk option and you rip bit-perfect copies of cds. This option is probably cheaper for most people with sizeable CD collections rather than replacing one's collection and you can actually get the music you want rather than the limited catalogue which will be available.

The proof of the pudding and all that I guess....

There's some blurb about Blu-spec CD on CD JPN here.

Hi Steeve
It'll be a while yet - the Blue-spec albums are not due to ship til 21 January. I take your point but I don't think I am going to dump my 555 in favour of some hard disk based replay system just yet. My Mate Graham R now has a certain unmentionable DAC and a Sonos system running alongside his 555 but I am still happy to get up and load a physical disc into my player.
Not sure I can face the idea of ripping my whole CD collection to disc just yet.
