just received my shm cds from japan , free fire and water and cream disraeli gears.first free ,this was different from the british pressing, it sounded like it had been remixed which it had not been guitars sounded easier to follow and drumming clearer .the cream cd was not the new deluxe remaster but the first remaster which i thought was better , again the sound was good with the group easier to follow .these are not impressive cd more natural.has anybody else got any different titles on shms cds

Not a new format! Just a new medium for carrying the standard CD. Anyhow, now that your music is virtual, it is only of academic interest isn't it?? Winker

Received "Who's Next" and "Tommy" today in two separate packages. Looking forward to hearing them later.

I've received a total of 12 SHM CDs in two days.
Just listened to Beastie Boys Ill Communication.
Sounds much better than my standard CD. Smile

"Tommy", "A Quick One" and "Who's Next" all sound great. I went to compare with my MFSL Gold Disc "Tommy" and found it shattered to bits in its jewel box. Frown

The Robbie Robertson album sounds excellent too. A much underrated piece of work imho.

What a shame! Frown
How do you think the MFSL Gold disc got broken Chris?
Posted on: 10 December 2008 by Chris Kelly
John, I really have no clue. It's in the original MFSL jewel box and the centre is still impaled on the central hub. No small kids about. Nobody has confessed so it remains one of life's little mysteries!
Posted on: 10 December 2008 by BigH47
Do they have a lifetime guarantee? Been playing anything really loud at the resonant frequency of gold? Any others affected.
Posted on: 10 December 2008 by Chris Kelly
No others affected. Very odd. I don't know if someone unfamiliar with the MFSL tilting jewel box tried to force it in. Hey ho.
Posted on: 10 December 2008 by BigH47
Not too many culprits then? I'm not sure just how much force you would have to put into it. Have you ever tried to break a CD? Just experimented and the black holder would come out long before the disc broke, also the slightest force lifts the black part and the CD comes free.

Have you called CSI?

Probably tried to take it out Chris. I have never seen any other discs with as many cracked centres like I have with MFSL.

CSI Ambleside just ripped to my iTunes! The Tommy disc wasn't just snapped it was shattered. Local community support officers refused to get involved so I have decided to let sleeping vandals lie!

Perhaps it was a bad loser that you'd beaten at Yahoo chess or just another blue badge abuser whose evening of swing had been cancelled. When it comes to storing CDs I say give us bubble wrap, the only way to keep it safe from a chimp in an ideal home.

At least you've got one playable version of Tommy.

Are these SHM or Blu Spec Keith?
Posted on: 19 December 2008 by Chris Kelly
Yes Keith I got the first 4 albums and they all sound terrific, better even than the CCR box set, which itself was not too shabby. This morning I received "The Doors" "Stephen Stills" "Rumours" and "Dixie Chicken". Will listn later.

will be interested to hear what they sound like chris one or two you have are on my wish list . the rod stewart shm cd to come out are remastered 2009 so should be worth a listen.one i would recommend is the steve winwood 1st sounds really good ,2008 remaster 24 bit shm.
Posted on: 19 December 2008 by Chris Kelly
I got Arc of a Diver, Keith. One of my favourite albums of that era. The SHM sounds very good. I agree about the Rod Stewart. If you get his first 4 albums plus Jeff Beck's "Truth" and "Beckola" you have the man's best work.
