just received my shm cds from japan , free fire and water and cream disraeli gears.first free ,this was different from the british pressing, it sounded like it had been remixed which it had not been guitars sounded easier to follow and drumming clearer .the cream cd was not the new deluxe remaster but the first remaster which i thought was better , again the sound was good with the group easier to follow .these are not impressive cd more natural.has anybody else got any different titles on shms cds

I cant get into CCWR.
God knows i have tried, ROTF sent me a shed load of there music to try this year.
I even got a copy CCWR Mardigras on 180g virgin vinyl.
Only to be told it was the worst album they ever did
If it was i cant tell because i dont like there stuff anyway.
Shame because its a nice bit of vinyl.![]()
You are not alone...they don't do it for me either.

Thank heavens we are all different! I think they came up with some of the best singles of the late 60s/early70s, and had a very distinctive sound. Their version of Screamin Jay Hawkins SusieQ is irresistible! Their entire back catalogue was recently released as a 6 CD box set and is, for fans, unmissable. Not for you two then!

555 thanks for the sampler recommendation...I have ordered a copy..a bargain at under £7 including postage.
I don't have any of these discs, but do have many mo-fi's and dcc's so I am curious to compare.. and see what all the fuss is about!!!

You are welcome Michael.
I see this has turned in to an even bigger bargain since I posted;
many more tracks have been added & now it's on two discs.
(IMSMC it was originally one)
VERY!
As this has now happened with quite a few SHM CDs I'm wondering if they are announcing the releases before they get clearances, etc?

Maybe. I think I'm right in saying that all the titles released are on Universal Music labels, so I would have expected that Universal had all that covered off. Those 2 particular titles were ones I really wanted to compare with recent UK remasters. They also happen to be two of my favourite albums of all time.

I don't think so Chris; my Bob Marley SHMs say Tuff Gong,
John Mayall say Decca, etc, so I assumed the non-Universal act are under license.
Whatever the problem let's hope they sort it!

Yes indeed. Universal own an awful lot of labels!

Turns out the cheap SHM CD sampler
Have You Ever Been Experienced? is two discs for comparison.
One disc is standard & the other is SHM so we can hear the difference.

That is going to be very interesting indeed. In my enthusiasm I inadvertently ordered it twice!
The Gary Moore "Spanish Guitar" album arrived today. Looking forward to giving that a spin over the weekend.

If you don't want two copies & assuming you've ordered from CD Japan,
email them & they'll remove one from your order.
However I think it'll prove to be a collectors item,
so if you hold on to it for a few years you'll be quids in.

A theory I have used on several of the titles!

Especially if all Daffy Dacers are right and cd is already a dead medium! Then watch the collectors swing into action!

What shipping method do you guys use for your orders with cd Japan and how much do they charge?
Munch,
I use the cheapest (about 500 Yen/£2.70) it usually arrives within 3 weeks, sometimes within a week.
You can pay for faster.

I use standard airmail from CD JPN Stuart.
This costs 300 yen extra (approx' £1.49), but arrives in 2-3 days.

be advised that postage cost from japan are set by weight, so paper sleeves are cheaper to import.also any order over £18 are liable for import vat charges plus £8 postage handling charge if you get caught ! .
Posted on: 10 May 2008 by 555
Very true Keith,
but the cost of SHM CDs from CD JPN are about half compared to UK/Europe,
& the postage cost doesn't count against the liability for import/vat charges.
So far with 11 orders from CD JPN of two or three CDs at a time,
with an average cost of 6000 yen (£30) & highest 9200 yen ex' postage I haven't been caught yet.

just had to stump up £12 for going over by £2 , but like you say not normally caught out .pity you cannot pre pay the vat as its the post office that sting you with the £8 handling charge.

Ouch keith!
IMO the £8 PO fee is classic rip-off Britain.
In my part of the Highlands & Islands the posty isn't allowed to carry/take cash.
If there is something to pay they don't bring the package,
but a card offering you the choice of going to the nearest office & paying/collecting,
or paying & arranging re-delivery online.
Of course the later is far easier, but the fee is still £8!
How can it cost the PO £8 to collect the money online?

I just got Mayalls Blues from Laurel Canyon, and Bare Wires. The sound is nice, but I have a hard time hearing a difference between them and the regular remastered versions. They seem to be quite expensive. I like the covers, very nicely made.
Also got the Allman Brothers Idlewind South on MFSL, now what a treat, to me this is worth every penny.

Urs, I got those 2 Mayall albums plus "Blues Alone", "Plays John Mayall" and "Diary of a Band". I am going to listen to "Blues Alone" on MFSL gold cd and SHM and see if I prefer one over the other. I agree that it very hard to hear any differences on "Bare Wires" or "Laurel Canyon" in their most recent remasters.

Yes, I didn't bother with the Mayall discs. The remasters are fine anyway.

Yeah, but old John needs the royalties in his dotage!
