just received my shm cds from japan , free fire and water and cream disraeli gears.first free ,this was different from the british pressing, it sounded like it had been remixed which it had not been guitars sounded easier to follow and drumming clearer .the cream cd was not the new deluxe remaster but the first remaster which i thought was better , again the sound was good with the group easier to follow .these are not impressive cd more natural.has anybody else got any different titles on shms cds

As an aside the Guy who played Hedley Lamar from Blazing Saddles died this week.

Apologies for not noticing-- SHM -- until now.

How does SHM compare to XRCD?

I have almost a dozen XRCDs-- all very good-- and read the liner notes expounding on why they are better-- care in the mastering process, care in the manufacturing process-- does SHM follow the same general idea-- or is there something fundamentally different about SHM vs. XRCD?

SHM-CD makes a lot of the Opticallity? of the plastics on the silver side of the discs. XRCD is in the recording I believe as I actually reduces the capacity of the disc.

got my sampler today, good selection of tunes but i think a better of the differences will be noticed after a few plays .the elvis costello track sounds really good but there is a bit of sibilance at the start of the track maybe just too near the mike when recorded hope there is a shm copy of spike ,now that would be good.anybody got the paul weller 22 dreams ? that is due to come out in shm format hows the quality of sound on the standard cd .

Keith
I listened to Alison again last night on both discs on Graham Russell's system. We then listened to it on a "Best of" that Graham has. That distortion, evident on both versions of the sampler, was not there on the Best of version. Strange.

I have got 22 Dreams on order on SHM.

I listened to some of Traffic "Gold" and "Cream of Eric Clapton" last night too. Both sounded very good indeed. As did Horowitz on the SHM version of his DG "Hamburg - the Last Concert".

There's more to it than that Biggy.
XRCD is a digital process & has a hierarchy of XRCD, XRCD2, XRCD24 Super Analogue & XRCD24 Refined Digital. You can get the detail for each here.

SHM CD uses a new polycarbonate which has better optical characteristics. However some of the SHM CD releases have also been remastered.

With pleasure Steve. It was your recommendation that got into my basket!

It's funky. Great fat bass. The notes are all in Japanese so no clue who is doing the vocals.

Sounds excellent.

Steve
It's a great slice of early 80s soul. Sound quality is exemplary. Definitely a late evning album I reckon.
The credits from the original album are there but too small for my ancient eyes to be able to read, even with my mighty varifocals!
