82 volume control not responding to remote
Posted by: Henry Cosker on 19 April 2002
Has anyone had problems with their 82 volume control after reducing its speed using the internal adjustment screw? Mine will intermittently refuse to budge using the remote control, and once this happens I can only cure it (temporarily) by GETTING OUT OF MY CHAIR and manually twiddling it for a few seconds.
A couch-potato's nightmare! Help.
Regards
Henry

This has happened to my 82 as well. With mine, it was due to the volume knob being pushed in a bit too much. THis caused too much friction for the motor to rotate the knob. Try pulling it out a few milimeters and trying again.

My 52 exhibited the same problem. Pull the knob out a bit and it should spin again.

Just a thought - have you provided said remote with high protein diet recently? New high quality alkaline batteries first place to start in sorting remote probs.

Thanks guys. The volume knob did seem to be fully pushed in, so I've eased it out a millimetre or two, and we'll see.
Hopeful,

Much of this behavior may be related to the type of POTS board installed on the front panel--early units use a driver IC which can "latch" in the presence of static (or, especially with the 82, variations in the PSC).
Rotating the knob could be a fix for both (either) the mechanical problem (contact with front panel) or electrical problem (latched IC).
FWIW, the later discrete POTS boards exhibit this problem far less often, and sound slightly better.

Is there a solution to the static? Better eathing?
thanks, Martin
