Arm for Roksan Xerxes (original)

Posted by: Bob Edwards on 14 May 2003

Hi all--

I've just acquired an armless Roksan Xerxes (the original, not the X). I'd like to tap the experience of those who have had Xerxes in the past as to what arm to use with it. Some of the possibilities include a SME V, a SME IV, a Rega RB600/900, or a Roksan Artemiz or Tabriz. I understand from the seller that the plinth is perfect--no sag whatsoever, and has the XPS2 supply.

I owned a Xerxes X for about a year and used a RB900 and my Naim Aro on it to good effect--the table let you hear both how good the RB900 was and how much better the Aro is than the 900. I still have the Aro, but it is a permanent fixture on my LP12. I got the Roxy mainly to experiment with, not to replace my LP12 upstairs.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions.

Does the xerxes come with more than one top plate? If it doesn't then you are limited to what ever it's cut for, unless you fancy re drilling it yourself.

Cheers,
Paul.

Bob,

There can be only one arm suitable for the Xerxes and thats the Artemiz.

I originally purchased my Xerxes with a rega RB300 arm and when funds allowed purchased the Artemiz.

There is something special about the Xerxes/Artemiz combination, something no other arm can acheive. When the Xerxes and the Artemiz come together they are better than the sum of the parts.

Then there is the Shiraz cartridge!

Bob,

Congratulations on your purchase.

..just to second NB's comments..
I also have the original Xerxes (originally bought with RB300).
I upgraded to the Artemiz in 1989 and agree that this is a truly superb combination.
Enjoy! Big Grin
