A set of standards, to accompany the arrival of the sun outside. I was at this concert and am very happy to have a physical record - two giants of jazz, Michel Petrucciani belying his stature and NHOP reinforcing his. These guys just swing.

Charles Mingus 'Mungus Ah Um' and The Dave Brubeck Quartet 'Time Out'.
Both bought after seeing the very enjoyable documentary on BBC4 last Friday. Really enjoyed the Mingus album. Brubeck seems a little 'prissy' after the energy of Mingus, may save it for later. Pity there is no information about the cover painting on these two albums, I would like to know who the artist or artists are.

Also bought the Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue' 50th anniversary box set. A bit disappointed with this, as I should have listened, to others here. The extra tracks are just studio talk caught on the tape, and the packing is nice, but compared with the Pearl Jam 'Ten' anniversary box I recently got, it doesn't not offer nearly as much. Admittedly Miles Davis' recordings have been very well catalogued and issued through the Columbia box sets, so there was not a lot else to add to this set. I am also waiting for Ornette Coleman 'The Shape of Jazz to Come' which was also ordered after last Fridays documentary, so I did buy the 'full set' after the programme, even if I already owned a quarter of it.

Neil Fujita did the artwork for Time Out.
In an interview he said I did Dave Brubeck’s [Time Out, featuring] “Take Five,” somebody said that the group was returning from a tour of Asia. I had recently returned from the service with armed forces intelligence in the Western Pacific and I had been through East Asia, the Philippines and Calcutta, so I borrowed some colors and shapes that seemed to go with the mood
I bought a copy too and The Shape of Jazz to Come.

Imelda May is an Irish female vocalist born 1974 in the Liberties, Dublin. Love Tattoo is a collection of self-penned rockabilly songs with a jazzy feel - perhaps even a bit Joplin like at times (Janis, not Scott). Production is a bit loud and it can sound like the engineer turned the wick up to 11, but enjoyable nonetheless.

It would be esy to triumph this album as '60's music icon records an 80's renaissance album whilst in the midst of a legal battle and then dies', but it's much more than that.
It's unsure star pulls away from the pressure of label control and flexes his creative muse. It's music legend records the songs he always wanted too. It's Roy's final letter, Roy's stab at more immortality and and it's Roy's testament to his wonderful talent. Full of pathos and black humour. Buy it.

this is a strange album, but one that I always keep coming back to for repeated listens. It sort of evolves the more you listen to it, and what may seem inaccessible at first, opens up into a world of beautiful melodies and rhythms.
Plus a great solo guitar track St etienne

First listen. Can't say much, yet. Not bad, I believe

You really get a feel for the Ozzy-era Sabbath sound by listening to it. You also get a real feel for the jazz roots a couple of the band members had and the musical skill they had but often goes overlooked

Throwing Muses - "House Tornado/The Fat Skier"
Not played this one for ages but it still sounds fresh and powerful now.

eclectic mixture of musical styles that crosses all boundaries, from soul, and jazz to hip-hop and ethnic tribal sounds.

Tonight's delight has been Tanita Tikaram. I haven't played Ancient Heart for years and it was refreshingly enjoyable. I think part of the reason I haven't played it in years is that I played it once too often when I first got it and sickened myself of the tracks. That feeling has now passed TG.
