Been playing the new one today and some good tunes on there. Very enjoyable.
I'll probably pick up a copy at Resident on Saturday, along with a few others that sound interesting.

Oliver,
It is one of my favorite ACT discs, a jazz trio recorded early morning on the water and I highly recommend it. Do you have anything by this label?

VDP-5001-2
On a side note: This disc was issued in Japan in 1985, over the years it somehow made its way to a collector in Wisconsin before it went on its long journey down under. Well travelled but in near mint condition.

Haim,
many thanks for the links. I have a few ACTs but mainly e.s.t., a few other ones as well - surely a great label. Not familiar with the one you posted but will chase it.
Cheers ... Oliver

Both Ligeti and Heppener belong to the generation born in the 1920s which formed the basis for the post-war avant-garde. Lux Aeterna, used by Stanley Kubrick in his film 2001: A Space Odyssey, marked the installation of a new musical language. The later Sonata for solo viola simultaneously evokes the polyphony of the fourteenth century and certain varieties of ethnic music. Im Gestein, a cycle of lieder to poems by Paul Celan which won Heppener the Matthijs Vermeulen Prize in1993, is here recorded for the first time.
1 Sonata for solo viola (1991-94).
1. Hora lungǎ (1994) Lento rubato (ma ritmico). György Ligeti 6'21
2 Lux aeterna for sixteen-part.

3 Sonata for solo viola.
3. Facsar (1992) Andante cantabile ed espressivo, with swing 5'52
Drei Phantasien nach Friedrich Hölderlin György Ligeti
4 I. Hälfte des Lebens 3'43
5 II. Wenn aus der Ferne 5'29
6 III. Abendfantasie 3'34
7 Sonata for solo viola.
2. Loop (1991) Molto vivace, ritmico 2'31
Im Gestein(1992)
A cycle of six choral songs on poems by Paul Celan for mixed choir, percussion and string quintet Robert Heppener

recorded live at the Five Spot, Monk's playing is wonderfully counterbalanced by Johnny Griffin's saxophone, not Coltrane or Rollins but still very capable. Not a disc to start your way into Monk, but this and Thelonious in Action from the same session are great discs nevertheless.

I don't think I have this one in my Monk collection - thanks for posting.
