David Holmes sampled Sugarman on one of his albums, but the standalone version is very good.

Live From Daryl's House

This month's guest: The Bacon Brothers

Live From Daryl's House celebrates its sweet 16th episode this month with Daryl Hall welcoming The Bacon Brothers. Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon and his brother, film/TV music composer Michael Bacon, perform their trademark gritty rock with a touch of soul that traces back to their Philadelphia roots, the hometown they share with Daryl. The new edition begins airing at www.livefromdarylshouse.com on Feb. 15, and will be featured through the rest of the month on the site along with previously archived episodes.

"Growing up in Philly, we used to play in a lot of the same places Daryl did," says Michael, marveling over how the six degrees of separation between the Bacons and Hall has brought them together after all these years.

Long before Kevin was a Hollywood star of stage and screen, and Michael a go-to film and television composer, the brothers shared a love of music. Michael Bacon was signed to Columbia Records right out of school in the group "Good News" and found success as a songwriter in Nashville. "My earliest memory of music was what my brother was playing or the music he brought home," Kevin Bacon recalls. The Bacon Brothers formed in 1994 and are soon to release their sixth album New Year's Day on March 24th. They have managed to juggle independent success as well as a touring rock band.

Great fun had by all and me Smile

Jules Deelder is a Dutch artist and poet, Above all things he is a great jazz scolar and record collector.

This Deelderhythm CD contains 15 tracks with rare groovin' hot jazz tunes from his own collection.

Jules Deelder plays his records in dance halls for young people to dance on; not like DJs who mix the music with external rhythms and effects, but only the plain music directly from the LP record.

During those DJ sessions he plays old Riversides, Blue Notes and Prestige records for the young audience.

These are the tracks on Deelderhythm:

1. Roy Eldridge and his Orchestra - Minor Jive
2. Al Cohn and his Charlie's Tavern Ensemble - Inside Out
3. Art Farmer - Mox Nix
4. Joe Newman with Frank Foster - Mo-lasses
5. John Plonsky Quintet - Putting on the Ritz
6. The Jazz Modes - The Oblong
7. Bobby Bryant Sextet - 58th Street
8. Randy Weston - Niger Mambo
9. The Jomar Dragon Quartet - Vinces' Tune
10. Tony Scott - The Moon Walks
11. The Freddy Merkle Group - Proto Cool
12. James Moody Orchestra and Quartet - Smack-A-Mac
13. Johnny Griffin Sextet - Olive Refractions
14. Frank Wess - Southern Comfort
15. Hank Mobley/Cedar Walton Quintet - Breakthrough

It is a joy to listen to this collection of rare LPs, most collector items, made by artists that never reached the top, but have made good danceable music. A great addition to my collection.

Regards,
Michel

Yes - The Tabernacle Atlanta 2008, pretty good audience recording.
Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Alan White, Oliver Wakeman, Benoit David.
First impressions are that Benoit David is singing at the very edge of his ability, strained, and no depth. Oliver Wakeman (son of Rick) not surprisingly is a better fit. One the whole they do not sound as tight as I would normally expect from Yes, but with two new members that could be expected.

If Chris Quire gets well soon, and the tour comes over to England I would be tempted, but not for silly money. The setlist is amazing, including a couple of 'Drama' tracks, as well as much from the 70's. I do hope Jon Anderson gets better soon, not just for himself, but for the fans too.

An underated Dylan album in my opinion. Black Diamond Bay is a big favourite of mine, I love the way he sings in the second person all through the song - and you think it happened long ago, then in the final verse he switches to the first person and you realise it's current.

Good call.

It was a real hoot! : >
Very macho-camp, but dynamically musical, and quite funny, brought smiles and laughter all round!

i've just ordered a cheapo pre-owned cd version copy... oops! Roll Eyes
