That first track is a short cut to musical heaven.

Adrian,
could you pls give me the best new ECM releases of the last 6-8 months, I've fallen a little behind.
Cheers ... Oliver

ECM cover art is a major part of what I love about the label. Just some of the best cover art going.

There are two superb books - Sleeves of Desire (ebay only job these days) and Horizons Touched - the Music of ECM by Steve Lake that are great to look at and admire the covers. A new book is coming out later in the year that will focus on the recent ECM covers as well.

... and you should listen to my new valves, Russian military grade, sound amazing. Cool
If I could just get my hands on some NOS RCAs from the 50s - I'm chasing them for years now.

What you transistor guys don't get, I just switch a pair of valves and have a brand new system, you want a little more bass - no problem, more definition in the mid range - no problem. Winker

I haven't listened to this one in a while, this might very well have been my first ECM, before I even recognized ECM as a label.

Those were the days - most kids only knew the word 'recession' from their history books. Big Grin

Over The Rhine "Drunkard's Prayer"

wooden screen door flapping in the wind, 3 people at the tables in the roadside tavern, tall glasses of lemonade sweating from the mixture of cold liquid and hot humid air, swivel fan making a racket in the corner, the mournful sound of the pedal steel, and at the upright, a beautiful woman with a voice from heaven.

Must agree the drumming is excellent.

Chris,

Clipped corners, puch hole or sometimes just a slash, simply mean that it was an overstock item. ( mine has a vertical slash )

IIRC, there was a tax advantage for record retailers to do so on unsold inventories.

The Spy was my last Carly Simon record I bought and didn't think it was that good back then.
I bought it at the Rose Record in 1980 for 3.99$ and have never dreamt of buying the same record years later for 2.99$. Razz
