Leader Cheetah - The Sunspot Letters
Album of the week
Adelaide four-piece, Leader Cheetah, is the folk-rock reincarnation of defunct post-punk outfit, Pharaohs.
Their debut album, The Sunspot Letters, is produced by Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low, Urge Overkill) and has a timeless and nostalgic feel throughout. The layered production highlights their gorgeous arrangements and penchant for melody and soulful harmonies.

MilesSmiles, I have the Cohen and the PJ Harvey albums to look forward to this evening. My local independant music retailer is allowing me to collect them both tonight after 5pm as a favour (probably because the money I spend there has put his kids through a very expensive education).

Gordon,
enjoy, I will have to give PJ another listen tomorrow. The Australian band I posted above was the best buy of the day for me.
Cheers ... Oliver

PJ has been getting very mixed reviews - lots of 4 stars and lots of 2 stars. How is the Leonard - after seeing the show, I can only believe it will be outstanding. Nice deal Gordon with your local. In Oz new releases come out on a Saturday. Much more sensible as it gives you the weekend to enjoy them.

Wasn't too impressed with PJ on first listening. Leonard is just like the concert - even the same jokes he told in Sydney.

One of the best modern day bands I have seen live. They create an incredible amount of tuneful noise for a trio.

Looks like they will be touring in the Autumn. Well worth checking out. They are supporting U2 in the US this summer - will be a hard act for Bono and boys to follow.

My most eagerly awaited new release is the new album on ECM by Andy Sheppard - released 6/4. This guy is one of Britain's greatest jazz musicians who has been out of recording contract for too long now. Anyway, he has now signed to the ECM label and has such great musicians as Arild Andersen, Eivind Aarset and John Paricelli in his new band.
For now I will make do with an album he released in the 90's on Blue Note - Rhythm Method.
