Focus! It's always a lot of fun to listen to Hocus Pocus! But there must be more than just this song.
Alain Bashung, Bleu Pétrole
I really hope Alain Bashung is known outside of the french speaking countries. He's such a great talent. His last album is a true gem.

Hi Munch, great album
I have that double vinyl but the cover is very different, It is dark with the name Focus cut out in the middle. Is yours the original? Or maybe mine is the North America cover.....thanx for the sonic reminder anyway.

I love Bruno Ganz both as an actor (used by Wim Wenders, for example) and his voice.

Now gents, the filing has a fair few but overall not too large - maybe some of them I will eventually like!! Some of the ECM New Series are challenging, but more often wonderful. The most difficult ECM New Series I ever bought was this one.

Here is a description of the album - it consists of readings of poems by TS Eliot and Giorgos Seferis, among which fragments of music arise mysteriously and then fade away. The poems have all been translated into German, and are read with tremendous muted power by the actor Bruno Ganz.
Hmmn. A little difficult for me to understand and appreciate but for MilesSmiles and Stefan well maybe they could enjoy it being German.
Haim - yes the Stefano Battaglia albums are on the filing shelf!!

I'll always try to sample a range of stuff from an artist before I make a final judgment to whether they are my kind of music [...]
Dean,
I'm just wondering how you came to this judgment regarding Yes, as Fragile and 90125 couldn't be more different! But I like them both too.quote:Now Yes blew my socks off the first time I heard Fragile so it was inevitable I'd end up buying this nugget from the 80's that makes it 8 Yes albums and counting,.
Do you like Drama? Often underrated, but I love it, and I thing it may suit your taste, in case you missed it.
Maurice
Maurice,
I have a strange ability when I like an artist/group to be able to like all their output and Owner Of A Lonely Heart was a track that I liked from my youth. I have mainly listened to Classic Yes 1970/77 for the past couple of years and only picked up 90125 yesterday. I'm not one of those types, and this applies especially to Prog, that if a band tries out something new or comes up with commercially acceptable music I don't dismiss it out of hand I listen to it on its own merits now 90125 is great Pop/Prog album but it will never be better than the more complex and personal favorites of Fragile and Tales Of Topographic Oceans for me but that doesn't make it a bad album. Oh! and yes I do like Drama its a polished and accomplished album though the Yes purists would beg to differ I'm sure.
Dean...
A lot of Yes 'purists' do like 'Drama', Howe, Squire and White were on excellent form, and Downes and Horn worked very well in the band. 'Machine Messiah' and 'Tempus Fugit' made a very welcome return to the Yes setlists on the 2008 tour (sadly without Jon Anderson due to illness).
'Tormato' is also worth a try, it does have two of the very worst tracks the band did 'Circus of Heaven' and 'Arriving UFO', but the remainder of the album is very good, especially the first two tracks 'Future Times/Rejoice'.
90125 is where many Yes 'purists' depart from the band. I'm afraid me included, especially the live material. I did not dismiss it out of hand though, but I just do not like it.

Stefan - enjoy this show. I look forward to hearing what it was like. Will they be able to take over as the kings of european piano trio jazz now that e.s.t have departed?

From my velvet covered 'Crown Jewels' vinyl box set. This is a superb album. Don't be put off because it's by Queen, it's their most un-queen album, full of bombastic swagger and camp high jinks.
