This will either be painful or great entertainment....

Never heard of them. The picture is hardly complimentary.

Russell Brand can be hilarious, especially live & ad libbing.
From BBC news on-line ....

During his innuendo-laden opening monologue of the MTV awards, Brand discussed the upcoming US presidential election.

"Some people, I think they're called racists, say America is not ready for a black president.

But I know America to be a forward-thinking country because otherwise why would you have let that retarded cowboy fella be president for eight years.

We were very impressed. We thought it was nice of you to let him have a go, because, in England, he wouldn't be trusted with a pair of scissors."

I find stand-up comedy to be crap. The only two times I've ever been, I left. When everything just disintegrates into innuendo and racism, it's just garbage. It's a shame because these guys can be genuinely funny when they are not trying too hard, and I'm sure Russell Brand is funniest when he's not working off a script.

I've got a pile of books to get into, and lots of CD's I haven't done justice to yet, so I'm not going to waste my life on this.

Try this Ewan.

Would the difference between something not being funny,
& someone not having a sense of humour be lost on you Nigel?

Okay, I've just watched the Bill Hicks clip and also the one of his that appeared on Christians, and I think we're talking about a different genre here. This guy takes a serious point and sews it into comedy, but it isn't pointless comedy - he's actually making social comment. As a result it isn't side achingly funny, but it's a nice balance. To be funny and thought provoking is maybe rare.

I've seen Billy Connolly and once he was hilarious, but other times the performance comes across as rehearsed and scripted and its tiresome. Graham Norton and his natural successor Alan Carr and the like are pointless and just go for cheap laughs. I'd put Russell Brand in the Graham Norton category and avoid it. I may be wrong, but I don't think it's my type of stuff. there comes a point when I realise that they just like the sound of their own voice.

It's probably because I'm shallow, but I can't live without Spongebob Squarepants.

I'd hate for anyone to think I didn't have a sense of humour

Smile

Spongebob and Futurama are what Saturday mornings are for! And does anyone else find Leela more than a little interesting?

Bill Hicks is probably the best stand up comedian of all time IMHO Ewan,
& you're right he was the rarest of talents.
I know what you mean about Billy C, sometimes I really enjoy him, but not always.

Spongebob Squarepants is excellent, but Ren and Stimpy are my favourites.

One more R&S classic.
