YES MINISTER STRIKES AGAIN.

Posted by: Lomo on 16 March 2005

No Names No Packdrill.
New Minister For Indigenous Affairs flies into community where alcohol is banned under government law.
Bottle of wine found on board by aircrew, when parked on tarmac.
Minister denies all knowledge, inquiry launched, minister absolved, staff member is the fallguy, suspended, later reinstated in another department.
Later....
In another Indigenous community, an island off the coast..
Islander arrested by police for being drunk, dies while in police custody.
Leak is that he slipped and fell breaking several ribs causing eventual death.
Rioting occurs, police and courthouse are burnt down and riot police arrest a number of the rioters.
Indigenous leader on mainland condemns police action and says, quote " police must die".
Indigenous Affairs Minister invites him to meet with her on island. God knows why.
He does not go but says that her department agreed to pay his airfare to island.
Police upset about this after his comment,
" police must die", and minister says her department did not make the offer. However says she will pay the airfares from her own pocket.
Inquiry set up, found that minister misled parliament, resigns.
Meanwhile
Courthouse is rebuilt, Premier invites local council to attend opening which he will carry out. Council refuse saying we don't want you.
Premier says you don't tell me what to do, goes to island, meets with council, offers to absolve all council debts if they will give way and attend ceremony. They refuse. Ceremony goes ahead without them.
Premier says in Parliament he is referring himself for inquiry as some people are inferring that he was attempting to bribe council. Investigation underway.
Leak from the Solicitor Generals office....
Premier's offer was for political reasons not personal so could not be construed as a bribe.
Meanwhile..
Coroners inquest setup on island. Coroner accused of sitting on a previous inquest concerning one of the police officers involved in the arrest.
Coroner resigns. Inquest adjouned until later in the year.
Meanwhile.. Govt. states that island council is disfunctional and does not enjoy the support of the majority of the island population.
Strenuously denied by council. Govt. has power to stand down council if they so desire.

Those of you who have had the patience to wade through this saga of political ineptness have my full sympathy. I mention the above to highlight how it is that governments such as this don't get smarter the longer they are in power , in fact just the opposite.
As for the poor bloke who died, well we are still waiting for answers. He seems to have gotten lost in the mix.

Those SA policemen had to go somewhere. Roll Eyes

Same things in Italy.
They are the first to break the law but still the first to brake the back of those suspected to break the law as well.
One year ago a 21 old boy kill himself after a police perquisition. He had been encharged to hide 1 gram of marijuana in his pockets.
Few days later the governement, during a night session, approves a law that let politicians in charge to sniff cocaine to afford "tha load" of their duties.
Cocaine is provided by parliament's police staf.

That's justice.

Hey Luigi,
My biggest problem with Mr Bellasconi is that he is a great Press Baron as well as being a Leader; where a conflict of intersts must even upset Italian Citizens on all sides maybe?

Fritz Von Britain had just awarded it's highest Military honour (The Victoria Cross - VC) to a young soldier for his Iraq duties, I wonder if he is ther first black guy/person ever to get it ? Cheers anyway, how's the dog ? Big Grin

A poor minded nation deserves poor minded leaders!
That's clear.
The problem, in Italy, is that everyone that manage "the public thing" has a conflict of interests!
It's such a pity to say that Berlusconi is not the inventor of medias control, but he learned from those before him!
People here don't mind so much about the control of their minds because a lot of them have nothing in mind to be controlled.
Anyway a lot of persons spent the last 20 years thinking about businnes increasement.
The north-east area, where i live, saw the birth of thousand and thousand industrial buildings, offices, shops, large supermarkets, cars dealers, gyms, beauty and anti-stress centers.
Somebody candidly thought that the only way to get happynes was to make quik money in any way.
Now the dream is over and they all go in the churches to listen to priests and bishops who pray god for jobs and work!

Killed in action?
I'd like better to know that the guy is somewhere drunk and cheering on life.
See.....during the last world war my dear grandfather spent 9 years as prisoner in an english army camp first in Kenia and then in India.
But today i'm here writing to you.
I think we should get rid of all those politicians........

Dog is fine!
Thank you!
She starts having some problems to her rear legs, but that's a casualty of age.
Doctor says she ok and i say she's gonna die pretty much older!
My pretty hairy thing!

A nice post Luigi, thanks for that, and yes I'm glad people are more understading today as well, or I maybe wouldn't be living here for nearly 24 years (next month 6th). The good news is also that the soldier is alive and well, and hopefully happy too with is wife.

Cheers for now, and watch out for that piano music !

Fritz Von Over and out from Berlin City where the beer is cheap and the girls soooo pretty Big Grin

You can feel better then, Guanluigi Smile

The recipient of the Victoria Cross, which is the UK's highest honour for military valour, is very much alive. Apparently the VC hasn't been awarded to a still live recipient since 1965!

Regards,

Jon

Good news then.
Lucky the nation that doesn't need heros!
Anyway.....my house is full of honor, valour, duty crosses................
Please don't think i want to be polemic at any cost, but there's such a lot of people who'd deserve a cross for their everyday valour.
Maybe one day..........

Ciao

I agree, Gianluigi, there are many who deserve to be recognised for their sacrifice but probably never will. However I would say that the humble army private, who received the award just yesterday, did so for driving 30 of his colleagues to safety during a gunfight in Iraq, and was shot in the head whilst doing so.

Regards,

Jon

Luigi, and to you Jon with all due repect you're both missing the point (or maybe just you Jon old Mate) this most prestigious award was given in 2005 to a black British Army Private (whils't living) quite justifiably so against every odds possible.

Fritz Von I hope to God this is the last of the matter really, besides the positive publicity he and his Regiment deserve, Basta Smile

Just to mention that Jon is right . The previous living recipient was Queenslander Keith Payne who is still alive and kicking and who said at 71 he thought he was getting a bit old to be the baby of the group. "Absolutely bloody marvellous", he was most excited and looking forward to meeting Private Johnson Gideon Beharry in London in September at the launch of a book commemorating all Victoria Cross and George Cross winners.
