CDS3 and CDRs

Posted by: Leopold on 16 September 2003

Dear All,
I noticed comments in the Copy Protection thread [from shetland pony???] about the CDS3 and CDX2 not playing CDRs that the older machines could play, plus some other comment about the new players only playing CDRs authored on domestic audio burners [as opposed to PC based ones].

I currently have a CDX and have no problem whatsoever with computer burned CDRs [which is just as well given a large proportion of my listening is in this format, no not rip off CDs but grateful dead shows - don't all snigger!] and am planning to upgrade to the CD3 in next month - I do have a home demo coming along when I will test this for myself - but would be interested [relieved] in any experiences from existing CDS3 owners with CDRs and for any comments from NAIM.

ta in advance,

Leopold

I was playing a few CDRs last night.

I did a Doyle Bramhall copy that plays in the car and office/home PCs but on neither my CD2 or CDS3. A Sonny Landreth copy plays fine on all except the CDS3 where it skips forward 3-4 seconds every 3-4 seconds.

Interestingly a Carl Verheyen copy jams 6 secs into the very first track on the PC until you manually fast forward itself past this point but plays fine on the CDS3!!!

All my other CDRs seem to be OK

Many thanks Stuart and Bosh!

I guess it is not as universal problem as the other thread seems to suggest. I will see what happens when I get the machine to demo.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply!
