USB striplight

Couldn't resist a new toy in the supermarket for a fiver.

The light source is about 6" (150mm) long and a thin tube only 2mm diameter that lights up with a surprisingly bright, white light.

What is the technology behind this thing?

Cold Cathode tube?

That looks neat. Where did you get it and does it flicker so you'd notice?

Thanks

They are as much use as tits on a fish.

A chain of supermarkets (Netto) have them on offer this week (in Denmark). Price equivelant to just under £5 in real money.

Driven from the USB port. 5V 500mA Maker: Office|Design

Can't agree with you garyi I'm afraid. Damned good light actually. With excellent spread and brightness. Ideal when you don't want to use a table lamp beside the computer. Very white with no heat at all. No sign of flicker. I'm using it in a completely dark room and it can light up a decent area enough to read small print 5 metres away. Magic!

Cold cathode just as Steve has said. (I Googled once he gave me the clue) Used to decorate computer cases it seems.

Looks like bent 3 Wood.

It would offer a wooden performance too with its flexible neck. Razz
