Scissor Sisters
Posted by: Misguided Fool on 02 March 2004
Hello there,
I just picked up the Scissor Sisters album from CD-WOW and am suitably impressed.
I bought it on the basis of a track I heard on Radio 2 (no it wasn't Comfortably Numb, I didn't even know they had done a cover of this when I got the album).
I know that people are polarised over Comfortably Numb, but I was wondering if anyone else had picked the album up, and what they thought of it.

Yeah, I got a copy on the recommendation of my youngest and thought it was pretty good. Nothing stunning but some catchy tunes. Only problem is that my daughter is playing it all the time so It's just at that point where its starting to get on my nerves.

Fancy that - I was just thinking of starting a topic about them myself, but looked at the 'Comfortably Numb' thread and decided against it.
I just love it [but then I'm a sucker for camp old tat], and think that Comfortably Numb is possibly the worst track [but then it was - dare I say it- fairly crap to begin with]. No Tits On The Radio, Laura and Filthy Gorgeous are absolute bliss ..... the vocals are frankly more Hebegeebees than Bee Gees, which might irritate eventually, but the concept of a Darkness style nod at the E.L.O./Elton etc. type of a thing rather tickles my tawdry fancy.
To puff them as some great white hope outfit though [which I have read] is ludicrous. Camp old tat through and through is my verdict, and I especially love the way that they've cribbed the 1st Roxy inner gatefold snaps for the booklet [Nick de Ville [designer of Roxy original] was a tutor of mine at art college, and was such a dreary tosser that this has a special poinancy for me]. File under Army of Lovers [and none the worse for that]

Poin?
I loike it.
The opening track reminds me of Sailor and A Glass of Champagne but that's not too bad a thing really is it? (remember when antipodeans were just like martians?)
Apart from that I've been on a bit of a glam rock fest kick recently anyway and this album fits in to the scheme of things quite well really.
So What it sounds like Elton John - Hell I REALLY LIKE early Elton John - Tiny Dancer - yadda yadda - I LOVE early Roxy Music - I DONT MIND Robbie Williams and George Michael (The wife's a fan) BUT I ALWAYS found the BeeGess fucking annoying - till now.
Hey What the Fuck - It's Pop Music and it's very well done and very well produced indeed.
It's available on vinyl as well so I guess that has to be a good thing?

Bought it today.
Like it.
Yes, it's a bit early Elton John with vocals in the style of the Bee Gees but good fun. Ok, so I may have suspect musical taste but this looks a candidate for some regular plays.
Cheers
