Intrested of music from Finland?

Posted by: Mika K on 05 May 2009

Hi all,

Recently had an idea related to this forum as have been lurking around for a while.

I listen mainly old school and also modern punk, rock, proge and jazz music. The selection also includes quite a bunch of finnish bands, including some nice indie findings. Classical I listan sometimes but I have to admit being quite a newbie on that front.
As a format I prefer LP but also CD and occasionally some lossless digiformats will do for leisure listening. Once a month I write LP reviews to one local mag, the main interest here is classic jazz and finnish indiepop I guess Smile

If you are only interested of the idea I could write here occasionally some small inserts about the interesting finnish artists and their works possibly with links to their Myspace pages etc. Nothing fancy but still something. So how about it?

Cheers,

Mika K

Sorry, Pan Sonic is not familiar to at least to me. Have to correct this and check the band out even if not listening so much electronic music - almost not at all with very few exceptions..

Thanks for the moderators for unlocking this thread. Don't know why it was locked at the first place but now again working so..

Joonatan Rautio Trio

Joonatan Rautio is quite famous tenor saxophonist in Finland, especially for his groups live performances at the several scandinavian festivals and now Trio has released their first album.

The album is little different than other finnish your saxophonist albums by Timo Lassy, that represent more cool latin jazz type of genre. Joonatan Rautio has more complex pieces for saxes, bass and drums combo with some not so distant echoes from the Coltranes playing style and overall performances. Technically the album and its playing is very strong performance with nice pieces but still seems somewhat a little weird for my ears. Anyway good effort and nice first album for those interested of scandinavian jazz.
