NEW POWER SUPPLY FOR NAT- 01!!! XPS2-T

Posted by: Onthlam on 21 April 2003

I have been lucky enough to be the lab rat with this new product. Thank you to NAIM and NANA for this experience.

The XPS2-T totally transforms the 01.
More, more, and MORE of everything!!! My experience with it showed that the 01 has been under utilized by a huge margin! With this new supply it gets SO deep into the music. Consistantly more harmonics and some round earth. The noise level is So much lower (and with that)it has not added any more of the potential transmission noise!
Its lighter on its feet with everyone stepping in time.......

The looks are the same as an XPS2.
Its kinda neat having a burndy going to a 5 pin.
Every day it just gets better. Please understand that right out of the box it was AMAZING!!!

This product IS available from NAIM. If you live in the area please do not hesitate on coming over for a listen. If you need a picture, I can post one. Just let me know what your needs are.

Best reagrds to all,

Marc Newman

PS I bought this one!!!!

I assumed the NAT01PS was a version of the Hicap so why the XPS2 and not the Supercap 2 (or original Supercap)?

Does the original XPS (or CDPS) do the job?
Posted on: 22 April 2003 by Dev B
Wow, Mark. Having heard what the XPS2 does to the CDS2, I think I want one for my NAT01.

Patrick,
Yes,it is an XPS2.A highly modified XPS2.

Dev,
Its night and day. Go for it!

Bosh,
Hopefully NAIM can chime in here.
My guess is that based on the number of mods it would take to the Super Cap? It was easier to do it to the XPS2. This is just a guess.

Marc

Are you sure it's not just a cable difference, since the price isn't different?

Andy.

The XPS2-T has no more resemblance to a Supercap than the NAT01-PS has to a Hicap (i.e. they are very different internally). Hi and Supercaps have just 0 and +24V, while the tuner power supplies have lower voltages in some rails as well as -ve ones too.

I do however expect the XPS2-T to offer as large an improvement over the standard PS as the Supercap does over the Hicap (i.e. huge and audible from another room). If you think the radio source is not high enough in quality to justify a higher spec power supply then think again- in my long path of upgrades I found that even a source as lowly as cable TV or cassette decks can be transformed by a top notch preamp (which is usually top notch by virtue of a top notch power supply).
In days of old I mentioned on the old forum that I would surely like a Supercap-quality PS for the NAT01. Four years later here it is.
I sure would like a audio CD burner powered by an XPS2... how about it!

Whew!!! Good News to those of us building systems around a home theater setup in mullet fashion. I notice the difference the Nait 5 makes over my Sony receiver even with the dodgy sources.

Not sure about a PS for a CD burner, but I believe there is a cable that allows for a *-cap to be hooked up to a walkman-style CD player. My old dealer felt that a hicap + walkman had most of the drive of the CD3.5 and did some round-earthish stuff better.

Here's one: You have a Nait 5. Do you get:

1) CD 5

or

2) decent walkman CD player + FlatCap 2

???

This all sounds interesting.

Can a regular XPS be modified for use with the Nat-01?

What can be done with the old Nat-01 Power supply? Is it convertable to a Hicap by chance?

Does this Power Supply come in the new Black style or the old Olive or Black style to match the respective Tuner Head units???

Marc: Paper weight? That what I thought the Flash remote was for. Been serving quite well in that role.

Trevor: If you look in the XPS2/CDS2 thread you will see that Richard Dane suggests that the XPS2 may be available in the olive box by special order.

Sorry Arthur, here's what I actually said....

<<the new XPS2 cannot be made in an olive fascia style case. Also, because of the extensive changes (such as the new transformer) made to the XPS2, it's unlikely that we will be able to upgrade existing XPS units, at least not in any economically viable manner.>>

This was the post in that thread that I was referring to:

Hi Jun,

I'm a little bit confused by your post. The XPS2 has been available for quite some time now, at least 4 or 5 months as it was released with the initial launch of the new range. There was no special upgrade scheme at the time of launch and we haven't introduced one recently. For the last 5 or 6 months we have been able to supply the old olive fascia equipment to special order alongside the new range for those customers who wished to maintain a cosmetic match with their current system.

If you bought your XPS a couple of months ago then the XPS2 was available as well and had been so for at least a few months. Are you saying you ordered an XPS in error? If so, I would take this matter up with your dealer at the earliest opportunity.

Richard

I guess things have now changed. I suppose if anyone is going to know about availability it would be you.

Manu,

When is Dimexs getting a 552 so I can demo it down in Windsor?

dave
Posted on: 24 April 2003 by Manu
Sorry Dave i can't answer this. The question is not when Dimexs gets a 552, it is when can one go to Windsor.
Ask Dimexs directly : info@dimexs.com

Arthur,
they have been able to supply old olive facia units, not new units with olive facia.
