Liam,
Without doubt I have more(or should I say my son) Bob Dylan CD's than any other artist, a full set. These include all the different versions, original master tapes etc. I'm busy trying to match these with Vinyl which sound much better of course. I'd guess at 100 CD/ LP's

That's far more Tangerine Dream albums than I own, I've only got 14 - I stopped at Hyperborea

I haven't checked carefully by I would guess Frank Zappa is my most abundant with 21 (counting double albums as one - though I may have miscounted).

I have everything that I'm aware exists in recorded form by Half Man, Half Biscuit - 11 albums, 10 EPs/Singles and 3 videos.

Similarly I have about 22 albums with Shirley Collins on them, but she is sometimes solo and sometimes part of a group such as Albion Country Band or Etchingham Steam Band - so I don't know if that counts.

I also have have all the Beatles albums plus things like 1 and the three Anthologies plus solo albums by Lennon, McCartney and Harrison (not all of them).

So I can't match your 54.

I do have a lot of Mozart symphonies, but they are in boxes so I guess they don't count. I prefer Beethoven, but only collected the first nine Big Grin (Karl Bohm).

Think that's enough counting for now

All the best, Rotf

Well, I have about 100 discs of Miles Davis. Of course, that's counting box sets as more than one. However, given, say the Prestige box set contains all the sessions for more that 10 albums it is nonsensical to count it as one.

I have about 75 discs conducted by Charles Mackerras (though again, that's counting discs as in box sets - but since his 5 disc Beethoven cycle is also available individually, surely that again is sensible). I also have a fair few from George Solti and Leonard Bernstein, but I haven't counted them.

Did you ever see Zappa ROFT. I saw him at City Hall in newcastle I think in late 70's around Sheik yer Boutie time and had a crackin seat and think, though maybe wrong that Herbie Hancock supported. I think later in the tour he fell of stage and broke his leg - see story Knackered leg - ouch

Diccus

Though never a great fan of Zappa, too off the wall for me he was great on stage and maybe i'll dig out my

on vinyl including the fine Peaches en Regalia (scuse spelling)

I must have over 40 Zappa albums in various forms(including older copied cassettes). One on red vinyl even. Then there is Bach, twenty-some.

A good friend of mine cheated last month and ordered a full low budget collection of Mozart. 160 CD's I believe, delivered in not much more than a shoebox.

There's some great stuff in there - in particular the Mackerras/SCO recordings of the Magic Flute and Die Entführung Aus Dem Serial.

Are we counting cd singles here too? I sometimes go on buying binges on ebay trying to get all the B sides etc. Inspiral carpets were one such binge a while back. Album wise Led Zep, Bob Marley.

I enjoy Neil Young, but I wouldn't have called myself a 'Neil Young nut'. So I guess I was surprised to find that some how I seem to have 28 albums, LP and CD, not including Buffalo Spingfield and CSNY...

Great tip, Tam. I'll tell him. I've seen a complete collection of Bach too at almost no cost, though that one didn't come in a shoebox.

Bruce Springsteen by a garden mile, many of them not strictly legit but loads of proper releases. i wouldnt care to count them. A couple of rare Japanese 7" and a Picture disc of 'Darkness' that was worth £50 in the early 80's but probably nowt these days. After that probably Rickie Lee Jones followed by early Elton John and Patti Smith. My tastes are possibly a little more catholic these days and I rarely play Bruce and Elton but they set the ball rolling.

I stopped vinyl at 'Optical Race' (their first fully digital album,) and cd at or around turn of the tides / goblins club, when I couldnt get what I needed from them in the way of sequenced rhythms. You heard Redshift yet? You need to!

Having sold all my vinyl the most cds are now Pink floyd.

I try to get hold of everything Charlie Haden has played (with). Far from my goal (with 48 CD's and 10ish LP's)

cheers

Ditto, plus John Martyn, Zappa and Van Morrison. Only four Love albums though, 'cause they only made four decent ones.

Don't feel like counting, but top contenders are surely Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis, Bill Frisell, and Pat Metheny.

For me it is probably Eric Clapton with 29, all on vinyl, including albums from The Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Delaney and Bonnie, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, his solo work and guesting on other artists' records.

Next would be Jimi Hendrix on 19, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Pink Floyd both on 11.

Others over 5 would be ZZ Top, Robert Cray, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, UB40, Kate Bush, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven................too many!

Yes - Empire Pool, Wembley 1974 - Overnite Sensation tour, he was just like a Penguin In Bondage boy. At his best FZ was one of pop's great innovators. He played Brown Shoes Don't Make It as an encore.

There were some lowlights in his career though - now I love the Tutles and Eddie & Flo's solo albums, but as Mothers, Eddie & Flo didn't quite work - Chunga's Revenge is a fine album, but Live At The Filmore East is dull and Just Another Band From LA awful, this period culminated in the film 200 Motels and IMO it wasn't very good (though the soundtrack album is not without merit) - but back came Zappa almost as good as ever with Waka Jawaka and The Grand Wazoo - I'm not the greatest jazz fan, but these albums were inspired and made jazz accessible to me. Then, of course, came a masterpiece: Overnite Sensation.

Zappa's best stuff remains his early stuff - the first 8 albums were all excellent - with We're Only In It for The Money and Uncle Meat the high points.

But did FZ influence those other four lads who shook the wirral?

Looks like Neil Young tops my list at 28, 19 for Smashing Pumpkins & Billy Corgan, 22 Pearl Jam & 23 Brian Eno. John McLaughlin is quite high but seems scattered all over from Shakti to Santana. I'm quite suprised at those totals. I don't suppose anyone has all Pat Metheny's albums as they must total at least 32,453.

What are your favourites? What did you think of Ship Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch - I thought his last great work, but have not heard all the subsequent material.

Yes as band they're just fantastic, that is really what I think; BTW which one's Pink?

My favouite period was when Roger Keith Barrett was in the band - Lucy Leave / King Bee and Scream Thy Last Scream / Vegetable Man are two of my prized possesions.
