mains supply recommendations?

Posted by: David Farmer on 02 August 2006

Hello,

I don't know if this enquiry belongs here but I thought I'd put ti in anyway.

I am having electricians in to to fit storage heaters and, aware of the value of a clean power supply for hifi I am also interested in improving the mains supply to my hi fi.

My system is currently sited close to the fuse box with a wire supplying one mains socket. At the moment the equipment is fed off a dedicated mains block of four terminals witha fairly hefty 1'6" wire, bought inexpensively for the job off the internet. This is plugged into the single socket.

My idea was to get the electicians to fit a further two mains wall sockets - or is there a better plan than that?

Any thoughts?

System is;

Thorens td 160super
Mission dad5 with Entech dac
Naim 72/140/flat cap
Ruark Scepres spkers

I would say finances are not unlimited!

Thankyou!

You may wish to consider having a single, dedicated mains socket and to run a Hydra from this socket to all your equipment.

David

While the electrician is there, have them fit a new separate Memera consumer unit (they will need to cut the tails from the meter to the existing consumer unit and insert a connector block), a small one with two outputs will do - have a 45amp breaker and a 10mm2 cable direct to the back of an unswitched crabtree socket. Then use a hydra.

I think I'll make a start with gold plated sockets.

My electrician will instal them - if I get them!

Any clues on where I'd get them quickly?

thanks,

I used unswitched MK sockets which are not gold plated. You may also wish to note there is divided opinion on using more than one dedicated spur for you rig. i have tired, over the last few years, all sorts of combo's, and prefer multiple spurs from and MEMERA CU.

If you want and more info e-mail me.
