Melbourne Grand Prix

Posted by: Deane F on 05 March 2005

I enjoyed the race but the new rules have certainly taken away a lot of the excitement of pit stops. I noted that the lap times are not down too far from the norm despite a suggested 25 percent reduction in downforce to make the tyres last the distance. 1:25.683 sec fastest lap is not too shabby when the lap record is 1:24 (and a few hundreths). Good to see Minardi managed to comply with the new regs in time to race.

It will be interesting to see whether Ferrari dominates again this year and, if they do, it will be interesting to see whether and how long Schumacher will take to catch up with Barichello's 8 point lead.

Quite a few people have said in this thread that they find Formula One very boring these days and a few have mentioned what big business it is as well. If it is any bigger than it ever was it must be boring less people than before. I was a Ferrari fan when they were a hopeless team. I'd watch the races hoping that the red cars would pull something off. It wasn't boring for me then and it isn't now. I find it is like cricket - the more you know about the finer points the more interesting it is.

Soccer. Now there's a boring game. Takes as long or longer than a F1 race and sometimes the games are a scoreless draw. No accounting for taste I guess...

Hi jon!
I think Fisichella comes from South America...........or is ti some one else?
You see i can't remember!
I don't like cars races as i don't like football.
I think they turn people into fanatics who drive cars like crazy and can't have a normal speech with others without screaming like in a stadium!
Poor, italian culture???
Where are you gone??
Where are the poets, the musicians, the writers?
Home watchin' tv?

Condolences!

Rugby football is commonly termed just "football" in these parts, so I was trying to confuse the least number of people.

But you're right. We are even worse at football than we are at rugby. It just made my whole year when we lost at the Rugby World Cup at the semi-final stage. Then we lost the Americas Cup. What a great year!

How do you Brits rate your chances of winning the next Rugby World Cup. (I suppose that's a whole new thread really.)

Being a Welshman living in exile.. the Welsh Rugby team are looking good at the moment.

There seems to be a new found optimism amongst the fans and we do have a fellow countryman of yours to thank.. Steve Hansen, he certainly put us on the right road to success.

zzzzz. WRONG! Soccer is an ENGLISH name for it - aSSOCiated football ring any bells? - just the riff raff refused to use it because it was considered an 'upper class' word. Now you just all think it's an American term. Isn't ignorance wonderful?

To achieve this, Mick could just write a manifesto of his beliefs and have Adam post it at the head of the Padded Cell as a sticky.

I think it's time for Fritz to share his experiences of the many funny handshakes he's been having with Mick..Big Grin
