Red hot Chilli Peppers

The album 'Californication' - the title track distorts on one channel - anyone else noticed this? or is it my setup? - CDI, 82 (hi caps), 250 + Arcs - swapping speakers doesn't move the distortion and I'm sure it's noticeable in the car too.....
(that's on the car stereo for any pedants out there!)

Which channel? I will try it tonight.
Have you tried turning around with the speakers behind you? - it might be your ear

I think it's the right ear er I mean channel!

It's really badly mastered, I can hear lots of crackling (digital distortion) which seems to be present where ever there are vocals. From memory, the first track is the main offender. Pity they couldn't get it to sound as good as Blood Sugar Sex Magic!

Couldn't bear to listen to it at a friend's house for the poor recording/mastering as well as the poor singing -- the guy *always* sounds off somehow, as if he was slightly flat or heavily pitch-corrected. Yuk.
This is one band I would love if they had a singer instead of pretty face.

He does indeed! The rest of them aren't too shabby either. The new albums got some great songs on, not something that I would have said about the Chilli's during the chest-beating-socks-on-cocks era. They really seem to get better with age. I would love to know what a typical day in the life of the Chilli Peppers entails...woke late, got a full body wax on way to gym, dropped dirty socks of at mums...

It's one of those badly recorded CDs that actually sounds better on your car stereo than on a decent set up. I'm not sure about the RHCP's getting better with age, I thought that the last album was crap, although I do like Californication. They seem to be pretty poor live now, too, very loose with rotten singing, but their earlier live performances were good, perhaps too much money and success?

Thanks all - I quite like the album, but it does get painful after a while - maybe if I stuck a big sock over the speakers it's be ok?

Very dissapointing this. I like both Californication and By the Way, but both are spoiled by the poor mastering and digital distortion. (I am told the distortion is also present on the vinyl versions)
