What did you do on your holidays ? (Pictures welcome !)

A kind of topical question Big Grin

Hopefully Sloop John B had a good holiday in the peak district and David G got his french drains dug.

For my part I am still part way through widening the garage by 1.5m and adding a new entrance hall and loo. Two weeks holls to go, so there is hope that the major structural bits will get finished. When I get round to it, I'll post some pictures.

What about you others ?

Dave G has not even started to dig his french drains... I suppose I ought to soon! I have planned to start mid September and if anyone really wants to see them I'll post a picture or two...

At the moment I'd rather have a glass or three of my fav' brew, enjoy the weather and listen to some tunes Big Grin

Just back from a couple of weeks in the North West of Scotland and Orkney. Didn't get any munros bagged but I did manage to mountain bike into Sandwood Bay.

Not literally we hope? Very nice it looked to on google images.

I saw the Rund om Danmark pass through a small town. I think this was the leader but the camera was so slow to react I'm amazed I caught anything.

As a "vacation," I hiked, with my Trail partner, about 55 miles on the Appalachian Trail in New York State--roughly from Wingdale/Harlem Valley NY to Bear Mountain NY.

We backpacked and stayed in Trail shelters two nights and in tents the other 4 nights. Great trip, although very hot and humid--the Trail is under a canopy of tall trees for the most part, and so generally there was no breeze at all. Coupled with numerous ascents and descents, made for a very hot trip.

Terrific time!

Best,

Bob

Garyi,

I noticed from the picture of your kitchen, that you have some shelves with hidden fixings. Did you buy these OR did you make them? If you bought them, where from and if you made them, where did you get the fixings?

Cheers,

Dave

How loud is that extractor?

We have three settings on ours:

1: F15 taxying.

2: F15 taking off.

3: F15 using afterburner in vertical climb.

Pardon? Roll Eyes

Nime - interesting to hear that your modern stainless steel extractor fan has noise problems - I think that extractor fan makers use a different sound scale to dishwasher manufacturers.

David, the shelves were made from the spare worktop.

However the idea came from shelves available from Habitat.

They are easy to make however the shelf is secured to the top wood from underneath with 3 inch screws and wood glue, then the top wood is screwed to the wall (I used no more nails as well as our walls are cob, i.e. chalk.)

I went to Italy for two weeks. 35 C every day and I have only once seen a cloud. Very nice!

Here's a picture of the painting on the ceiling on the dome in Florence. Impossible to photograph though...
