Keeping your kit clean

Chaps

I am at home today, aching like hell because yesterday I did an emergency 10 hour shift moving hundreds if not thousands of roll containers off and on 40ft lorries. I was daft enough to volunteer and now I ache in muscles I never knew I had.

Anyway, I took delivery today of a Polti steam cleaning machine and it is brilliant, it cleans everything in sight. No need to employ domestics if you have one of these.

The good news is that the Naim boxes come up as new after a quick flick over and the water evaporates within seconds. Everything is glistening clean.

Also, Mana, which is a dust trap comes up as new, especially the SBL stands with the MDF boards. The paint has its gloss back.

I am eager to share my domestic bliss with you all.

Sounds good, Mick.

Are there any issues as far as steam affecting the electrics or the veneer on the Isobariks? It would be useful I suppose to get a view from Naim - Richard, if you're reading, please comment with regard to electrics and Fraim, which is a bugger to keep dust free.

May I also ask how much and where from?

Cheers

Dave,

I'm not at all familiar with the Polti Steam Cleaner. I don't wish to spoil Mick's fun but common sense would tell me that electronics and steam cleaning do not make for happy bed-fellows (especially if they're still plugged in!). Ditto for wood veneer.

I am told that a feather duster is handy for keeping the Fraim dust free.....

Yes I agree that steam and electrics do not mix.

The steamer can be used very close up to remove grease and grime etc for from a distance to remove dust. It can be safely used on leather, wood, hifi frame and boxes. There is more of a wind rather than high pressure. Therefore the steam does not enter the box.

My boxes look better than ever and it took about one second per box.

For god sakes mick, at least take the electrics ouot the box first.

And be careful with the SBLs, or you'll lose the veneer, and this can take a few weeks to notice.

I am only talking about a quick flick.

I am as safety conscious as the next man and would not take any risks.

Well OK then, I do worry you know Mick.

The cleaner came with a video which showed a rather attractive Italian lady flicking steam every where, including wooden and leather furniture and even pt plants, so it is fairly low pressure.

I am tempted to steam clean the dog.

Note this event in your diary - just in case you get a bad reaction in a few months/years time.

Pessimistically - it could bring about your retirement ticket.
