Bottle neck/Slide Guitar

OK, it's payback time.
For those Naimies across the big ditch we have in resent times put up with the worst things to come out of America such as
Mc'Donalds and George Bush so if you will excuse the pun to "name" but a few, so now you owe us one.To get back in favor with the british public A list of your best BOTTLE NECK/ SLIDE GUITAR players is required
NOT the players of that awful apperition that some players drop across their knees and then proceed to try to strangle, but the real bottle neck players ,preferably
NON VOCALI have already started with Leo Kottke and John Fahey so others would be appreciated.
THEN we might just, and I'll only put it as strongly as that, forgive you for Ronald and George.
oldie.
ps this is open to anybody with good suggestions, not just those over the ditch but they should pay penance for their wrong doing.

Hi Jay,
I never really got into Ben Harper so I'd better rectify that and have a closer listen.
If you're into Weissenborn's, I guess you'll be familiar with Jerry Douglas, but have you heard him on Viktor Krauss' album "Far From Enough". He described it as a soundtrack without a movie, which I suppose is fair however it's one of those albums that just seems right. Certainly one of the best of this year and definitely worth checking out.

And if you like the afore mentioned North Mississippi All Stars, check out James Mathus album called "National Antiseptic"....and John Mooney, "Late Last Night".

Hi Dave. I'm familiar with Jerry Douglas, but only just so. I have the album he made with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt ("Bourbon and Rosewater"), and I've heard him a few times through his work with Lyle Lovett. I've been meaning to seek out moore, but not sure where to start, so thanks for the recommendation. It'll be at the top of my "to buy" list.

Still looking for this one, but picked up Jerry Douglas & Peter Rowan "Yonder". It's old-timey guitar/mandolin/vocals. High and lonesome stuff. Shore is purty.

Hi
One amazing guitarist is Tommy Emmanuel. Both electric and acoustic. The acoustic album "Only" is amazing(my wife doesn't understand why I like/need this chill out music).

Very Sad News
It would seem that Ben Andrews has had a nervious Breakdown right at the start of his UK tour and had to return to America for medical treatment. also to compound the problem its reported that
his UK agent will no longer be handling Bens European intersts see below.
Some of you may be aware that I have been forced to cancel Ben Andrews' UK tour.
Ben has sadly suffered a nervous breakdown & is not able to perform & will be returning today to the USA for medical treatment.
Powerhouse Productions will no longer be able to represent Ben in Europe, a decision I deeply regret.
I extend my sincere apologies to all those venues & fans who were looking forward to hearing this exceptional artist, cancelling the tour was not a decision I reached easily.
Ben's recovery will be a long, slow process but I'm sure you all wish him well as I do.
I haven't chosen a replacement act yet for the gig in Maidstone on the 15th Oct but rest assured it will be, as usual, a first class band.
John

Good News for Ben Andrews fans, but very strange but then again who am I to quiry the health of someone else.
Why is life so complicated?.......Don't answer that, it was purely rhetorical.
Thank you, the many who sent their best wishes to Ben for a speedy recovery.
Ben has actually been in a clinic near Heathrow Airport & has contacted me this morning. He is fully recovered & wishes to continue his tour with those venues that can accommodate him so as not to let so many fans down.
I have spoken to as many venues as I can & so far most have re-booked him ~ indeed I will be putting Ben back on the bill at our Maidstone venue on Friday 15th as so many people expressed their disappointment.
This has been a difficult time for both Ben & I but I hope we can salvage something from this....many of you know that when Ben is on-form there is nobody in the World who can touch him. He says he has his old energy back & is raring to go.
This is, I suppose, Rock & Roll by any other name & I'm sure you will all have your own recollections in the past of musical geniuses needing extra support in their careers.
Right now I'm giving my support to Ben.
My abject apologies (you already have that from me) to those venues that were unable to feature Ben this year.......he will return to the USA later in the month & may be back in 2006.....I'll keep you informed.
John.
So all in all very good news, I just hope he remains well enough to record his next Cd with john.

Strangely, there's only one reference to Rory Block. Her Telarc recording Last Fair Deal blows away everything that I've heard before (in that musical area).
I'm not so much a fan of National Anthems (being German...), but Blocks's version of the American Anthem is breath-taking.
Best regards, freundliche Grüße
Stefan

I only recall seeing one mention of Kelly Joe Phelps in this thread, so I'm going to bring him up as well.
If you head to the KJP website:
KJP's siteyou can sample some of his music online. The album that I've enjoyed the most is "Roll Away The Stone".
All the best,
Bill
