Quadraspire on Hard Floor

Having had my QS rack for 6 months (i am very pleased with it before you ask!) I am wondering whether i have it set up optimally.

It is a 4 tier and the spikes sit directly in contact with the quarry tiled floor. Can anyone suggest materials that i could try inbetween as i have a feeling that this may not be ideal.

This weekend i am going to experiment with different tightnesses. How loose should i start?
(I have the non-ferrous struts)

harris: i believe that QS will actually sound better on the hard floor, provided of course is prefectly level and all the spikes make true contact with the floor. i know this as i moved my QS recently from my office to another parquet (sp?)floored room..
