I was pretty surprised to learn that 16 years olds can legally purchase lottery tickets in the UK, I mean gambling's, er, gambling, whichever way you want to tart it up, innit!

Perhaps British kids are far more grown up than their European counterparts when it comes to money and stuff? Cool

I suppose when you think that when that Swiss Geezer built the biggest & tallest Toblerone on earth, and it went unchallenged for over 4000 years, it's hardly surprising that there's now fighting in the streets after the Froggies went and spolit it all by building the old Blackpool Tower of Power, innit!!! Big Grin

Scotland - Argentina, now that's a game!

Course the Yanks have qualified for Germany 2006

As from 6 months ago my bank card allows me to use ATM's belonging to some 10 other different banks (and associates) right across Europe & UK without any extra charges or 'Bullshit²' whatso'ever. I wonder if any British IFA's, etc, can advise their clients where now to find a similar service, to access their own money? My mother who's recently moved house in London, has been told that her phone will be re-connected this monday (same number too?). I did mention this recently, and shall be pleased if it actually transpires, as she'll no doubt be promptly billed for this great privelege. If it doesn't happen as per scheduled, I'm looking forward to hearing the usual excuses, bullshit, bullshit, and amateurish whitewashes that come with it, blaming everybody else for their lack of service, never mind eh? We're British Big Grin

Could well be Fredders, Parry, and Our Adams rescue package?

I bet the Brits couldn't get away with selling clapped out dodgey old RN Boats to the Yanks in a hurry, for an arm and a leg, Oh No Sireee !!! Cool

I didn't know that Spanish is the most widely spoken language in the States? you'd have thought it'd be French really wouldn't you, what with all those Brit-language students over there out-staying their welcomes for years on end, and garlic, and all that culture and all that stuff too, innit?

Steuvesons are Dutch though I fink? Cool

Dear Fritz,

Nice thought, but I can't afford to be ill! Last Friday, when I went to the doctor and had a day in the process (47 quid down! ie take home of 153 rather than 200) I was offered a prescription for pain-killers, and a week off on the panel. I declined both. It's a pain, not to be rich enough to be ill!

On a salary... Cool, but otherwise you're scum, only sciving, if you are too ill to work, and so you go three days on zero before Statutory Sick Pay kicks in, and that amounts to about 60 quid a weel. I have never tried it. I take my illness to work so everyone else can get it, and then they pass it to others! We are all scum, actually...

Last time I was truely ill, with Shingles, I had four weeks off, but was actually better off as I got SSP as well as my wage, but those days are long gone. All workers are scum now in UK.

All the best from Fredrik

No! They are "unter-scum!" Fredrik

PS: I remember the election Major won, when the polls got it so wrong. No wanted to admit to having conservative leanings, and really before Blair the Labour Party did not have an electable leader after Wilson. Then comes along Blair, and people could avoid being hypocritical... Hey but that is wrong. Something wrong there I feel. Has he not out-Toried the Tories in his contempt for the little man, the underserving poor if you like, and his wholesale adoption of pererage sales, and croney-ism. Major begins to look like a Saint, but what about Cammeron, indeed. That really does scare me too. No, politicians in UK are very scary, on all sides apparently now. I better get out I think. The old culture has died, I think. Fair play is dead. For that, maybe we should thank the multiplely elected Mrs Thatcher! Democrasy in action! How on Earth can it get results any one wants in a place like Irak, when it produces results like Blair in Britain, or even one day Cammeron? Jeepers.

Fredders old Chap! as I may not actually vote in General Elections at present, neither German nor British; I don't think I can really comment as such about my personal individual opinions of certain people au-politic, though do naturally enjoy (like most people on here) nicking other people's thoughts and one-liners. Talking about systems etc, is another story entirely though, and as I do vote at every given opportunity; feel myself able to give voice without feeling hypocrytical Cool

As I recall the only individual on here that's actually admitted to voting to date (the act of voting itself) is Our Deano, so wether I agree with him or not, I think his right to air an opinion in this direction is Kosher I feel, as well as having credibility for me at least, and puts all of the other little tittle-tattle diversionary & stupid non-arguments that arise every single time upon this theme (never an alternative option given) onto the back-burner where they ultimately belong, along with all of the other great so-called unrealistic utopian Philosophies that want both their cake and eat it (namely; they ultimately always ending having to use lethal force to get their way: with God on their side too naturally) as history has often shown, and will unfortunately always so do I reckon! as it's the very nature of our vile 'present' beast seemingly, innit Eek

P.S. I got quite carried away there! I think I've had too much arkasia honey on my supper rye toast, brrrp, bedtime methinks old son to dream about winning enough money to waste on a Wonkeresque lottery ticket :

Goodnight: as they arrogantly say in Paris:

Probably in English too:

N.B. I really wanted to mention some of the excellent football played tonight as well, but thought better of it, we don't want Our Nime having another of his tantrums and running off to management, now do we? Roll Eyes

Moving injured people here after being hit by cars etc, for the reasons Nime mentioned by those moronic selfish bastards in Bath that time, would probably amount to jail sentences (suspended or not) plus mega fines, licence points, etc, etc to-boot, as I hope they would do in UK today as well:

Dear Fritz,

I voted Thatch in '79! So that makes two here.In the next ('83, I think), I voted for a man who lost his deposit in South Hereford, and was not Liberal or Conservative, so he must have been labour, I suppose! then I waited till thye major re-election, not being a Maggie fan, evn though I tend to accept the result of pseudo-democrasy as being the best way of getting rid of rotten scum after four or five years! I don't discuss politics, but if we have an election before I die I will declare my vote beforehand!

Sorry about footie. I don't understand the off-side rule! Plus I was crap at it at school. I was good at get the crocket pitch ready, and scoring the matches. not very sporty, except for cross-country, were i was unbeatable, because I could go theough the pain-barrier.

All the best from Fred

As an afterpoint Fredders, I refer to voting Now, and at the next chance we have etc, unlike those who voiced endless opinions on here etc, around the last British election time, but didn't admit to actually going along to do the dirty deed, most wealthy people don't:

I'm a bit of a marbles & conkers man myself, been training for decades:

Dear Fritz,

It was Sir Micheal Spicer, West Worcs, Con. Is that an admission, or not?

Fred

PS Edit, I have no idea, now Cammeron is leading. Maybe he is the best thing for the Tories since sliced bread, but to me he is a good time boy, done nothing nor ever will... And we nead an opposition, cum gov't. Or else we become in UK a one party state, and no democratic person welcomes that.
Posted on: 13 November 2005 by Berlin Fritz
That's fine Fredders, but to be honest I'm not at all interested in the slightest what people actually vote, just in that they excercise their right to do so, spoiling the ballot too if they so desire (as often said on here). Some may 'publically' swing this way or that, but vote totally differently, which is their perfect right naturally, innit old son.

Did you know that the majority of ex-pats living in Saudi (to help its future progress naturally) regularly (including many Saudis themselves) go to the nearby holiday island of Bahrain to get absolutely helplessly pissed out of their tiny brains on BOOZE, well I never ! Cool

Does this mean now that Denmark are actually better than Argentina at football I wonder in the world rankings? we should be told: Eek

Well done Toblerone land, the Turks were going ballistic around here last night, poor lads, perhaps they should go to Paris and learn a thing or two from the cops Big Grin

N.B. Apparently some senior French politicians have suggested that long-term immigrants in the country (still not with French Citizenship) may be able to vote in General Elections in the future. This ludicrous and irresponsible way of thinking has all sorts of dangerous connotations throughout the whole of Europe imho (local or municipal tax-payers elections are another matter). Some years back a long term (German) resident of Mallorca attempted to join the local election race in Palma (but in German). The locals obviously went crazy, and reminded him where he was, Spanish is fine, and I agree with them entirely; (Many rich and powerful Brits & Germans, etc live on the island). Arrogance describes this, and although not being a great Helmut Kohl fan in the past, his stance on not allowing German Citizens (of Turkish origin, etc) double Citizenship after their 21st birthday was a good and brave one, as well as a good model for future Europe, innit Razz

But you know me, I ain't sayin nuffin!

I bet even the Yanks wouldn't screw up like this! It'll be interesting to see what excuses transpire for this major fuck up, trust blames the NHS, NHS blames the trust, the cleaner wasn't on duty at the time to confirm the tests (Give me a break) this is a very serious fuckup that should never be repeated, and they tried to cover this one up anyway, imagine if he'd died (for whatever) reason in-between it becoming public ?), and it's obviously true, it's in todays biggest selling Brtitish newspaper, that even 'incredibly & Mind-Bogglingly' quotes politic in today's age dunnit Eek

Germany's Rememberance Sunday is next week Cool Check it out in your sensational News ov der Screws, innit !
Posted on: 13 November 2005 by Berlin Fritz
Of course when that terrible chapter in France's history (nicely covered up at the time) involving security services and police opening fire with live ammunition, and subsequently killing many unarmed Citizens who'd dared to protest on the streets of Paris, not to mention the countless seriously injured both physically & psychologically! Yes that was indeed a dark part of France's history; and who out there, I wonder can guess when it occurred? A hundred years ago? fifty? try circa 30 and a bit, then you're getting warm, so all of those great wise-wordsmiths out there who drawl & trawl on with the same old comfortable rhetoric, should start learning a little bit about the actual causes of the present (and most likely future) unrest in France, and get off of their endless little trip, of 'Oh Look, and after all we've done for them', bollocks Big Grin

P.S. I think it's also important to remember that Europe's largest Jewish population happily lives in France, and as has recently been shown to much prefer putting up with a little run of the mill anti-Semitism from a few ignorant kids & loonies, than actually returning (or rather going/emigrating ) to Israel, which although a highly Democratic land, still is home to much discrimination, as my newly found Messian-Jewish pal recently told me.

In other words we are French/EU Citizens first who happen also to be Muslims, Jews , Catholics,
etc too, a point that cannot be repeated often enough, innit Smile

The British people should have been ashamed of themselves at having kicked Sir Winston straight out of office in 1945, and after all he'd done for them, eh? Though being brought up and schooled in the States (as I'm sure many of you are not aware) he should have been used to such sudden overnight changes, What!

I mean Dubya could resign anyday now, just like that! (could've been like that too) and then where'd we all be I ask you? well and truly up shit creek without a paddle! Cool

Talkin of unemployment, here's one!

I suppose when one thinks that the many Turkish business's etc, that successfully run in this City alone, circa 500,000 living here for many generations. I don't imagine they're too bothered about Eastern European cheap labour (as they generally only employ their own anyway), innit. If one considers that the large majority of long term (3rd generation and more) immigrants in France all speak pretty good French, unlike many here (even born here), and more increasingly so in the UK too, I believe? copy-cat car burnings, etc will possibly occur? A 'normal' Paris weekend involves car burnings, and has done so for many a year in some areas, the latest burnings here in Berlin this week have also caused some alarm, but not panic, (Turks love their motors for one thing), and other ethnic groups are generally pretty fairly well integrated I reckon (except the British) that is, who expect as per usual preferential treatment in many fields (unlike the Yanks strangely enough, much to their credit).

I used to proudly mention to folk here that the foreigners living in UK mainly were full accreditted British Passport holders (Empire offshoots and all that) unlike those many here, but now I'm slowly having second thoughts I must admit; and in some ways look forward to becoming a true European by actually taking out the citizenship of my long-term adopted land, just like Our Nime has done Smile

Bloody negative if you ask me !

All he has to prove that he owns it is some emails and letters. The Turkish company appears to be legit, ie. they have an up-to-date website, answer his emails and say they have no problem with him taking over the property, offering him help with furnishing, etc.

I've offered to accompany him out there in the next few days to sort things out, but obviously would like some background so I'm not completely in the dark about Turkish legalities and can actually assist him.

Does anyone know anything about Turkish property law?

Dear Fritz,

To join up two rather unrelated paragraphs, did you know that quite a few Norwegians go to Denmark on the ferry to get drunk, because the stuff is so dear in non-EU Norway!

Sort of booze cruise, I suppose. All the best. Fredrik
