AV2 firmware versions ?

Posted by: Roy Donaldson on 08 October 2003

Hi there,

Having purchased a new AV2, I would like to understand how I can identify the current firmware version that the unit is using ? Also, having done this, is there anywhere on the Naim web site that I can find what the latest firmware version for the device is and what advantages there would be to me to arrange having the firmware upgraded ?

My dealer is a 2 hour drive away and this would help me check I was staying up to date on the unit easliy.

Thanks,
Roy.

Roy,

to check the version of firmware in your AV2 press and hold the OSD button. The Firmware code will then appear in the display. For further information on Software and Firmware updates you should contact your supplying dealer or else drop us a line at Naim.

Richard,

Can you tell us what the current version is on the AV2?

Thanks

Mine's P209 which I believe is the current. Has an extra mode at least to do with DTS-EX I believe.

AFAIK, P209 is the curent version.
But if you have P106, that`s ok for curent usage. The differences are mainly related to RS232 operations and provision for VS1 use (if we get it one day Big Grin ).

Allen,
Your dealer should be able to upgrade it to P106 for free. It is just a download of the new code into the AV2.
The upgrade to P209 is not free as it needs the change of a chip, That's the PIC upgrade (see Products, Manuals (at the bottom of the page) on the main web site).
Talk to your dealer and to Naim service.
All dealers should be aware of this upgrade.

What you are missing with P103:
Dolby EX,
LR and RR are swapped in the setup menu,
Distortion can occur at the signal recovery if a selected digital source loose its signal: If you power on a digital source after the AV2 or, with a sat/cable set top box, if the sound transmition is interrupted even for 1/2 a second.

Call Naim, may be they can do something for you. The software upgrade is a very easy thing to do. I don`t know their policy on who can do it, but you are probably able to do it yourself.

I agree with you, the 2 first items are easy to live without but the distortion problem is very ennoying.

Hi there!

Is the P209 FirmWare already able to delay the audio (lip-sync) to match a deinterlacer/videoscaler treated picture?

I also like to have a IEEE1394/FireWire/iLink (means all the same!) Interface so that we can have only one cable to link the player and the processor with high-resoluton, multichannel sound (DVD-V, DVD-A, SA-CD).

Any new info or rumors about the VS1? Release Date, features. Does it have a digital picture out via DVI or HDMI Interface?

The less d/a or a/d conversions we have in the chain, the better the (should) the result be.

happy listening

Hi Richard,

Thanks for telling me how to go about finding out the current firmware version. Well worth while being able to know what the unit is running.

Would it be possible to have the different firmware versions and major differences between them published somewhere on the main website. I know that your general recommendation is to speak to your dealer, but this is probably one of the first devices Naim has produced with upgradeable firmware in it and having your end-users able to check their firmware versions and make informed decisions on whether to contact their local (or not so local in many people's cases) dealer to then discuss with them whether to do the upgrade or not.

Also, for anyone looking to use the OSD button to find out their firmware version, be careful as holding the Display button by mistake will factory reset your AV2, see my other topic.

Cheers,
Roy.

Hi Richard,

Ok, when I hold the OSD button down on my AV2, it reports:

AVC0101
F421

Can you tell me which firmware this implies I have ?

Thanks,
Roy.
