New Anti Terror laws

I watched on the news the other night about the government wants to bring in 3 month detention and new "incitement" or "glorification" laws with relation to terrorist groups/acts.
Any views? I'm extremely sceptical, for example, wouldn't they have to bang up 90% of the politicians in Northern Ireland? (Probably a good thing for the general population there). Would Nelson Mandela have fallen foul of these laws, if they had existed then? I remember Thatcher didn't like Him. Will an over reaction simply create more support?
